Curing applications use heat to create a
chemical reaction to cure a finish or
adhesive onto a product, or to solidify a
plastic or epoxy, that ultimately
increases the strength and durability of
the material through a chemical
reaction. catalyzing agents are
sometimes also introduced into the
curing oven to facilitate the required
reaction. The enhanced physiochemical
linkages in the cured material result in a
harder, more durable, and stable
materials or coatings that resists
temperature, humidity, and/or

An international coating line builder,
contacted Epcon regarding a new plant
they were going to supply to their
subsidiary in Shandong, China for
coating metal strips for the architectural
and transportation industries. In addition
to traditional architectural and
automotive coatings systems, the new
line would need to process a special
rubber based high solvent coating. This
unique coating requires a relatively slow
and tightly controlled ramp rate to
ensure proper curing.

8. Conveyorized Finishing System
with Multistage Washline and
Dry Off Oven for Aluminum
Parts Production
Epcon designed and manufactured, a 3-Stage Washline.
Constructed using Type 316 Stainless Steel, consisting of
three (3) heated chemical tanks, using natural gas
burners, as well as a conveyor to move the parts through
the parts washer. At the exit end of the Washline is a Dry
Off Oven, to dry the parts prior to painting. In addition,
Epcon supplied the Paint Spray Booth and the Paint
Curing Oven for this Facility.

A viable solution we have found to this
particular problem is custom engineering Air
Pollution Control equipment to work in
conjunction with Heat Processing
equipment. For example, coupling a multi-
zone Oven with one or two Heat Exchangers
and a standalone Oxidizer to maximize
operational cost and productivity. When
engineered properly, these custom systems
have proven fuel reduction by as much as
50% while simultaneously maintaining
compliance with air emissions regulations.
