This document examines provisions available to Australian nurses to respond to disasters in their public employment agreements. It analyzes leave policies across different states and territories, finding inconsistencies. NSW, SA, and WA provide the most specific paid leave for volunteer emergency response. The ACT agreement ensures OH&S training covers disaster response and allows unpaid leave for eligible volunteers. Overall there is a need for more consistency in defining leave policies to support nurses responding to disasters as part of emergency services.
