The Indo-American Center is a non-profit organization established in 1990 in Chicago, Illinois that provides services to support South Asian immigrants. It has 27 full-time staff, 10 part-time staff, and around 10 volunteers. The Center's mission is to promote well-being of South Asian immigrants by helping them adjust and integrate into society while maintaining their cultural heritage. Services include citizenship assistance, education programs, legal aid, and more. It has grown from a small office providing immigration help to one of the largest South Asian organizations in the Midwest.

The Cambodian Population
Cambodia has a population of around 15 million people, with Phnom Penh as its capital city. The country suffered greatly under the Khmer Rouge regime in the 1970s, which resulted in the deaths of over 1.5 million Cambodians from executions, starvation, and forced labor. Cambodia remains one of the poorest countries in Asia, with over 30% of the population living below the poverty line. The economy relies heavily on agriculture, garment exports, and tourism. The healthcare system faces many challenges including a lack of funding, medical supplies and equipment, as well as high rates of malnutrition, maternal and infant mortality.

No Kid Hungry

15-year-old Leann Farha, a student at Casady School, organized the 3rd Annual Walk the World Oklahoma City event to raise awareness about global hunger. The event was a 5K walk that drew participants from the community and raised $11,000 for the World Food Programme and other organizations addressing child hunger worldwide. Farha began organizing the local Walk the World event as a freshman and has expanded it each year. She and other Casady students participated in various fundraisers in the months leading up to the event to contribute to the funds raised. Farha's leadership and passion for addressing hunger has engaged her peers and made the Oklahoma City Walk the World event an annual community tradition.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
