India Cloud Summit 2017 Was a Huge Success!
Over 230+ attendees came together on July 5 to Bangalore to
discuss, understand, and get global perspective of the future role of
cloud in digital businesses. We had the honour to hear from the
most innovative real world cloud curators and experts on how Cloud
is digitally transforming businesses across the globe and how India is
gaining momentum in the digital space. With all major verticals
represented, India Cloud Summit is the event in the centre of where
collaborations are made, knowledge on cloud is shared, and the
Indian and global cloud community comes together to define future
of cloud technology.
Theme Of The Year: Future Of Cloud And Digital
Business
The first-of-its-kind event, India Cloud Summit edition 1 was themed
around ‘Future of Cloud and Digital Businesses.’ The objective was to
bring in a global perspective on cloud to the Indian cloud fraternity
on how they can disrupt, evolve, transform, and scale up their
business with Cloud technology.

6. Session on State of Cloud Adoption in India by Zinnov:
Rajat Kohli, Managing Partner at Zinnov, showcased the public cloud market landscape in Indian region to the audience. India
has emerged as a favorite technology investment destination for Global Technology MNCs for the competitive edge it has across
the globe. Cloud spending in India would exceed $10 Bn by 2020. Other than the mature enterprise ecosystem, vibrant
SMB/Start-up and Government initiatives are driving demand for public cloud services in India. The growth and demand of public
cloud is spread across all verticals, and currently India has over 1600 cloud partners to fulfill the demand.
Broadly, the Digital business is disrupting across the 4 digital business levers of digital enterprise- customer targeting and
engagement, operational excellence, workforce enablement, risk management. Soon, digital businesses would demand a
verticalized service offering.
The Challenge: Verticalized service offering is a customer demand. Having a clear strategy is extremely critical. Cloud providers
need to alter their sales approach to cater to the new-age.

8. Reaching Beyond Clouds- Story of India's Moon Shot by TeamIndus
Rahul Narayan, Founder of TeamIndus, shared a fascinating talk on their upcoming mission to the moon in December 2017.
TeamIndus is flying a privately funded Spacecraft to the Moon in Dec 2017 (only American, Russian and Chinese Space agencies
have landed on the Moon so far). Rahul believes that the best way to inspire change is to create path-breaking solutions that
take on critical challenges for mankind. He shared the artifacts from moon mission, how the lunar orbit capture works, about the
deep space network that Team Indus has, and how TeamIndus is using AWS Cloud for Descent Simulation for their Moon
Mission.
The Inspiration: HIGHER Purpose, DEEPER Meaning
TeamIndus is all set to launch its 7kg rover on moon, in December. Here’s wishing more cloud power to the team, let this be
#HarIndianKaMoonShot!

10. Future of Cloud and Digital Businesses (Fireside Chat)
The fun virtual-fireside chat between Lakshmi Pratury (Founder & CEO, Ink) and Jyoti Bansal (Founder & Chairman,
AppDynamics) entertained the audience with their quirky tech stories, quips, anecdotes and their digital learning experiences.
Moderated by inspiring women leader, Lakshmi, the session was designed to discuss the future of cloud technology where Jyoti
also shared his thoughts on startups, business, cloud and future technology.
The Lesson: To sell the most important thing is to put yourself in the other person's shoes
Jyoti believes technology should be used to build the right stuff that is innovative and add due value to end customer (selling
comes second). He shared that “Cloud is as secure as data centers, it's a regulatory issue”. Businesses need to adopt and change
at the pace of technology mega trends. ML, AI, Serverless is the next big thing, one must leverage them to the fullest.

13. Emerging Cloud and SaaS Trends For Enterprise IT
Moderated by Managing Partner at Blume Ventures, Sanjay Nath, the session on ‘Emerging Cloud and SaaS Trends For
Enterprise IT’ was a panel discussion amongst some of the most established cloud curators of the world- Sanjay Lakhani
(Managing Director , Sequoia Capital India), Joydeep Sen Sarma(Co-Founder and CTO , Qubole), Gaurav Manglik (Co-Founder &
CEO , CliQr Technologies), and Ashish Gupta (VP Engg. and Head of India R&D , Rubrik). Cloud moved from skepticism to being
core for Enterprise IT. What’s constantly evolving is SaaS. Sanjay also announced the fresh funding news of having Minjar
on-board.
The Lesson: The way we do business today has changed, it’s more digital
As more and more businesses step confidently into with the digital era, true digital transformation will only become more
imperative. SaaS is helping businesses stay more informed than ever before and make better, data-driven, decisions.

15. Lessons From Trenches - World's Largest OpenStack Cloud Journey
The session was presented by Gaurav Gupta (VP and Head of Infra & Security, Snapdeal), and Neeraj Goyal (VP of Engineering,
Snapdeal). Gaurav shared the story of Snapdeal Cirrus- next generation Hybrid Cloud Platform based on Openstack.
Building and operating a private datacenter has its own challenges. The key was to build a private cloud, with the efficiencies and
model of a public cloud using entirely opensource and homegrown solutions. Openstack helped.
The Lesson: Pick a cloud environment that is elastic, scalable and completely automated to build, manage and use
Snapdeal’s Openstack control plane is fully-redundant and is able to tolerate multiple degrees of failures. Gaurav and Neeraj
suggests- “Avoid silos of infrastructure to offer consistence performance, resiliency and scale.”

Challenges
Moderated by Minjar Co-Founder & CEO, Vijay Rayapati, the panel discussion on ‘Enterprise CXO Perspective’ was graced by the
esteemed presence of Ajay Poddar (VP Engineering, Shaadi.com), Mahesh Tiyyapura (CTO, ABOF), Pramod Jajoo (CTO,
Bigbasket), and Madhusudan S (Principal Evangelist, Amazon Internet Services).
Nearly 85% SMBs and enterprises in India feel Cloud adoption is critical to business success. Ajay shared why Shaadi.com moved
to AWS and picked Minjar as their cloud journey partner and how they could scale up with assured cloud cost optimization and
better ROI. Mahesh from ABOF shared how they improved their infra availability with AWS and Minjar support which helped
them manage zero downtime for ABOF even in peak hours. “The digital journey of Bigbasket on cloud was a success milestone.
Our service offering are now more agile, readily-available,” shared Pramod.
The Lesson: Cloud adoption is not only an IT issue, but it is an ongoing journey of transformation

Moderated by Nutanix India Business VP & MD, Sunil Mahale, the panel discussion on ‘Managing Enterprise IT and Building
Business in a Cloud Enabled World’ was graced by the cloud experts and digital technology evangelists- Himanshu Varshney (CEO
& Co-Founder, HashedIn), Anindo Sengupta (Strategic Advisor and Cloud Evangelist), and Mohit Saxena (Co-Founder & CTO,
InMobi). Cloud is a platform for innovative developments, the pulse of digital transformation. Automation can help speed up the
process of innovation, when leveraged the right way.
The Lesson: Culture Shift and Automation are key to Cloud success
Despite the positive outlook on digital evolution with cloud support, challenges persist. Cloud Partners play a key role in
addressing the knowledge gap that businesses have today when it comes to evolving digitally .

22. India Stack - Creating a Nation of Innovators
Last session of India Cloud Summit 2017 was hosted by Co-Founder of iSPIRT, Sharad Sharma, who introduced the audience with
India Stack- Technology for 1.2 Billion Indians.
India Stack refers to the ambitious and controversial project of creating a unified software platform to bring India's population
into the digital age- a paperless, present-less and cashless service. Sharad shared insights on how India will grow from poor data
to rich data with power of Machine Learning, and Algorithms, and most importantly Cloud. From e-signs, digital lockers, public
technology platforms accessed in India, to Adhaar e-KYC and GST, Sharad wowed the audience with India Stack project.
“The new GSTN will process 5 Billion invoices a month across 70+ Lakhs businesses. India will be the largest user of e-sign in the
world by December 2017,”, says Sharad.
The Lesson: To increase market size 10x or 50x, cost of doing business must come down
