This Indian Cinema and Literature Quiz was held in March 2022 and set by Shiva and Subhadra as part of our weekly sessions. The set was meticulously compiled and hosted by the QMs. Quintessence is the Quizzing Society of Zakir Husain Delhi College, University of Delhi. The society has been active for 10 years and has been actively holding Intra quiz sessions and quizzes for both school and college students in the circuit.

Popular writer X, headed to Mumbai in 1934 to try his luck in film industry. In those days, the job of
scriptwriting for films was highly lucrative with the promise of Rs 8000 per annum. He joined a studio
called Ajanta Cinetone and was asked to write a script for a film called "Mill Mazdoor" based on the rights
of working class. X also played a cameo role as the leader of the mill workers.
But when the film was sent to the censor board, it was banned from releasing, because board felt that
film was 'too real' & provocative & it could damage relation between workers and management.
Ironically, workers at Xs own press were inspired by the film to strike against the non-payment of wages.
X's experience of working in film industry was not very good, he returned from Bombay & wrote harsh
critique of film industry in his essay "______ aur _______", he said that while literature strove for 'idealism
& beauty' , the film industry was 'only about profits'.
