Politics
• Politics means the activities required for,
decision-making, and allocation of power
within a group or society.
• Islamic Perspective:
- Derived from 'Siyasah' (administration
and leadership).
- Encompasses justice, welfare, and
collective responsibility.
• Example: Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)'s
governance in Medina.
• Humans are social beings
requiring order and decision-
making mechanisms.
• Sociological reasons: Need for
structure and conflict resolution.
• Psychological reasons: Desire
for
power, influence, and
belonging.
• Example: Establishment of
Medina as the first Islamic
state.
Politics in Human Societies
• Politics is the exercise of
power within laws and
governance frameworks.
• Power in Islam is a trust
(Amanah) for serving people.
• Example: Caliph Umar ibn al-
Khattab's leadership with
justice and accountability.
How is Politics Related to Power?
• Family Level:
- Shapes dynamics through
decision-making and
conflict resolution.
- Example: Prophet
Muhammad (PBUH)'s
balanced family leadership.
• Local Community:
- Governance impacts
services, conflict resolution,
and welfare.
- Example: Treaty of
Medina ensuring
coexistence and justice.
Role of Politics in Human
Interactions
• Global politics determines
international relations,
trade, and alliances.
• Example: Prophet
Muhammad (PBUH)'s
letters to leaders like
Byzantine and Persian
emperors.
• Alliances like the OIC
influence Muslim nations.
Role of Politics at the Global Level
Before
After
• Diverse perspectives: Some
view politics as necessary;
others are skeptical.
• Reasons:
- Historical: Decline of
Islamic empires and
colonialism.
- Current: Corruption and
lack of unity among Muslim
countries.
• Islamic Revival: Focus on
justice and welfare in
modern governance.
Current Mindset of Muslims Regarding
Politics
• Politics is integral to
human societies and rooted
in Islamic governance.
• Islamic history provides
examples of justice-oriented
politics.
• Call to Action:
- Revisit Islamic principles
for modern political
guidance.
