There are four main impulses behind literature: 1. Our desire for self-expression and sharing our thoughts and feelings with others. 2. Our interest in learning about other people, their lives, motives, passions, and relationships. 3. Our interest in both the real world around us and the imaginary worlds we can create. 4. Our love of creating and shaping expression into forms of beauty, such as through drama, novels, and poetry.
