5. Shallots
Shallots are normally considered a variety of onions, and
they share the same species, Allium cepa, although they
are in a subspecies variety called the Aggragatium
group. They are also closely related to garlic and have a
similar structure of a head composed of multiple cloves.
They vary in color from golden brown to rose-red, and
the inner flesh is pulpy white, with some green coloring.
They are probably native to Southeast Asia and moved
from there into India and traveled to the Mediterranean
region through trade and general crop movement.
Shallots have been cultivated for thousands of years,
appearing in Greek literature and history. They are also
not cultivated in Africa.
6. Shallots
They offer an interesting culinary flavor to foods and can
be used either fresh or as a pickled vegetable product.
They taste somewhat like onions, but have a slightly
milder taste. However, similar to garlic and onions,
shallots cause irritation in the eye when sliced. Shallots
are prepared in numerous ways, including deep-fried as
a condiment in certain Asian cultures. They are valued
not only for their unique flavor and availability, but also
for their significant nutrient value, which is actually
superior to common onions in a number of ways. Let’s
take a closer look at some of the nutrients that compose
this versatile and popular vegetable.

also found in significant
quantities in shallots, which is an
essential B-vitamin that can help
with mental and emotional help
by regulating hormonal and
enzymatic reactions in the brain.

Shallots contain very less
amount of calories and
loads of nutrients. Calories
in a shallot depend on its
cooking procedure. If
you’re on a diet, you can
add shallots to bland foods

provide just 14 calories.

present in 100 grams of
boiled shallots.

Shallots contain more
nutrition than onions.
They have more anti-
oxidants, minerals,

quercetin and kemferfol.

juice helps clear thread
worms that occur in
children. Grind some
shallots to make a juice
and drink every morning
on an empty stomach.

Shallots are smeared on
a baby’s body during
cold or fever since it is a
medicinal plant that can
effectively cure regular
cold or fever.
18. Shallots Reduce Phlegm:
Shallots are an effective
remedy to dilute the
phlegm that causes
coughing.

Mix shallot juice with
honey and consume a
teaspoon of this mixture
thrice daily. This is an
effective expectorant that
can give you relief from
bronchitis, influenza,
cold, cough and sore
throat. It is also helps
liquefy the phlegm and
helps in clearing them.
20. Shallots Reduces Nervous Irritability:
Shallots contain many
vitamins and minerals
like vitamin A, thiamin,
vitamin C pyridoxine,
folates, etc. Pyridoxine
(B-6) present in shallots
is useful to raise the
GABA chemical levels in
your brain to soothe
