10 MOST IMPORTANT
FEATURES THAT MAKE A
GOOD POSTER
 In the poster show what the poster is selling
 Do not hide from the point
 Posters are used as promotional tools so use it
 Not only think about what the poster is selling but also think
about what do you want the person passing by your poster to
do? Engage in a discussion about the content? Learn enough
to go off and want to try something for themselves? Want to
collaborate? All the above, or none of the above but
something else? Style your poster accordingly.
FEATURE 1- DEFINE THE PURPOSE
 People are busy
 So make it stand out and sell the product in an appealing
easy way
 For example, commuters going up escalators, passing busses,
bus stops are all things which they may encounter on their
daily commute
 The commuters may only take one glance at it but make sure
it counts by showing what the product is and what it does as
quickly and simply as possible
 With the worlds attention span decreasing ensure selling it is
quick and snappy
FEATURE 2-SELL IT QUICKLY
 The title or name of a product or film is what people
remember most when seeing any promotional tool
 Make sure it counts!
 Make it short and snappy so the consumer does not forget it
 This is what you are selling your product as so making easy to
remember or catchy will make the potential consumer more
likely to remember it
 It also interests the customer more if there is a snappy title
FEATURE 3- TITLE OR NAME
 This may sound obvious but style it with your message in mind
 Doing this will create a stronger meaning and message
 But stylistically, will look better
FEATURE 4- STYLE AND DESIGN IT IN
CORELLATION TO THE THEME YOU WANT
TO SET
 Always have this in mind whilst creating your poster
 Design it to how your audience want to see it
 What things does your audience like to see in a poster?
 Ensure that the design grabs your primary audience quicker
than any other audience
FEATURE 5- WHO ARE YOUR AUDIENCE?
 Make the poster stand out from any usual poster
 Add a creative element which is not seen in the stereotypical
poster
 A unique element makes it stand out drawing people to look
at the poster closely
 If not that, then a continuous set could be made with small
similarities which link the product with a slight different in
each
FEATURE 6- UNIQUE ELEMENT OR
MATCHING SET
 The layout is crucial because ensures information is displayed
In the most audience friendly way possible
 Designing it with a suitable layout in mind allows the product
to be displayed in the most appealing way as possible, with all
the information not obstructing that, yet still being able to
inform the audience more about the product
FEATURE 7-LAYOUT AND DESIGN
 Laying out the information so that it does not obstruct the
product too much is vital but the content of the information is
something which visually may not influence the audience, but
if people want more information on the subject matter, then
the suitable information should be there
 It is vital that not too much information is there
 People are busy and often commuting so they will have
limited time
 Ensure that the essentials are there to draw in the customer
rather than push away
FEATURE 8- CONTENT. CONDENSED YET
IMPORTANT
 This is closely linked to the design and layout of the piece or
having a unique product but this is an additional element on
having a unique design
 Add a touch of what you want in the design
 Make it personal to you as well as your audience
 This element always makes your poster unique and different
FEATURE 9- AD A PERSONAL ELEMENT
AND YOUR TOUCH
 Think in the longterm of this product
 What will the consumers do short term and long term after
seeing this poster?
 Ensure that once there is a spark of interest, it follows
through to generate that sale, view, etc
FEATURE 10- THE IMPACT THE POSTER
WILL DO DURING AND AFTER
