IMPORTANT EVENTS IN THE NOVEL
1. The children prevent a terrible train accident during a landslide.
One day, Bobby, Peter and Phyllis saw a landslide when they were walking on top of a
hill beside the railway track. The railway line is blocked. Then, they realise that the 11.29
train has not passed yet. The children want to stop the train from colliding with the
landslide. Phyllis suggests that they use their red coats ad flags to warn the train. The
train travels very fast and the children are worried that the train will not be able to stop.
Bobby runs onto the track and waves her two flags. The train only stops 20 meters
away from Bobby.
The children’s bravery and quick thinking help to save the train and its passengers from
a terrible accident.
2. The children rescue Jim.
One day, Bobby, Peter and Phyllis want to watch an event near the railway line. They
can see a group of boys enter the railway tunnel. The las boy in the group is wearing a
red shirt. The children go across the hilltop to see the boys come out of the other end of
the tunnel. The notice the boy in the red shirt does not come out. They are worried about
him. The children want to look for the boy inside the tunnel. In the tunnel they can see
the boy lying quietly beside the railway line. The boy broke his leg and cannot walk. The
Peter and Phyllis ask for help from a nearby farm while Bobbie waits with the boy. Some
men from the farm help carry the boy, Jim, to the children’s home. Next day, the Old
Gentleman who is the boy’s grandfather arrives.
2. Their bravery in helping Jim brings their relationship with the Old Gentleman closer.
