 The first animated cartoon was Fantasmagorie
produced in 1908 by the French director Emile
Cohl.
 One of the first successful animated cartoons
was “Gertie the Dinosaur” produced by Winsor
McCay
 In the 1930s to 1960s, cartoons were produced
in huge numbers, and usually shown before a
movie to keep audiences entertained.
 Original cartoons were black and white and
included no sound. The first cartoon with
synchronized sound is Walt Disney‘s Steamboat
Willie,starring Mickey Mouse in 1928.
Why do children love to watch cartoons
Children have a mind which is full
of curiosity and always finding
something to learn. IN reality they
usually spend time in home, school
and in some cases with baby sitter.
Means they didn’t see any unusual
or funny stuff in surrounding. And
while at home they watch
Television, always prefer to watch
cartoons because here kids found
all the funny and entertaining stuff.
Impact of cartoon on
children behavior
Positive Negative
Two types of effects
Positive effects
Helpful in exploring and observing:
no one can deny that kids can
learn a lot from cartoons. The
curiosity and excitement of
observing everything is cartoon
character and episodes let a kid to
observe new things and
surroundings.
Makingkid an activeand genius
Many cartoon characters are students and own
decent personality as idol daughter or son.
He is scientist and always seeks to discover new
inventions. So, if a kid loves to watch this genius
boy on television consequently he/she want to
become active and smart like Dexter of course.
Helpful in maintaingoodhealth
 First thing is cartoon make us laugh by
activities and doing creepy things this is the
reason why kids love to watch cartoons. And
research says laughing keeps you healthy as
it’s kind of exercise which regulate blood
circulation as well. That’s the one of the
greatest aspect of watching cartoon and
having a laughter dose makes you healthy.
 various cartoon characters have good
physique and are fitness freak as
well. Like, Popeye the sailor man, he is
the famous cartoon character who
belongs to spinach as source of power
and energy. It is interesting to know
that kids who did not eat spinach have
changed their taste and now love to eat
green vegetables. Well, that’s good
news for parents, isn’t it.
Helpful to overcomeand reduce stress
Scientifically it has been proved that our mind is more
active when it comes to visual learning rather than other
learning methods. That’s why many institutes suggest
seminars and lectures as video tutorials. At the age of kid,
mind is blank and always welcome to whatever it observes
and see. And therefore, play schools also prefer visual
classes for kids. And same happens with cartoon
characters, the point is by watching cartoons as with
beautiful animations, colors and other scenes, a kid can
learn various things at a one time. May be attractive colors
enhance a kid to recognize colors differences and also let
him/her to use them by making drawing.
Children’s characters are influenced by
the cartoon shows they watch on television
Kids actually learning by watching and in
cartoon show as their hero or favorite
character behaves respectfully with his
family. This tends a kid to do it in same
way. And child started giving respect to
elder brother and sisters in family. In other
words we can say that child is making
his/her behavior good and appreciable.
Negative impacts of cartoons
Health problems
 There is nothing good in sitting all day
in front of the TV, watching cartoons.
 Lack of physical activity also creates
problems with obesity.
 Pushing kids to eat junk foods
Health problems
• In 1997 in Japan, 653 children were admitted to hospital for
epileptic seizures. After detailed research it was found the seizures
were caused by flashing red and blue lights which appeared in 38th
episode of Pokémon, which children watched that night.
• The episode was never commercially released or re-broadcast
anywhere in the world, as it was banned by the
Japanese government.
Violence
Leonardo, one of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (the blue one), viciously beats up and
destroys the army of evil Krang. The result: broken arms and legs everywhere,
smacked faces, ruined buildings, total destruction
Remember Tom and Jerry? Well, they fight and
chase each other all the time, seeking some sort
of revenge
Throwing a grand piano on someone’s head,
gunshots, explosives in someone’s hand or
mouth, and the loud explosion that follows, all
of these are subliminal or quite direct messages
depicting violence that flow into children’s
minds.
Violence
Experts from the American Academy of Paediatrics (AAP) say that kids
who watch cartoons full of violence tend to be nervous, aggressive and
disobedient. Moreover, these children are impatient.
There are three main effects of cartoons that
concern violence on children:
 they become insensitive to others’ pains and
sorrow
 children do not feel discomfort from any
elements of violence around them in real
life
 children are prone to aggressive reactions
and violent behavior.
