This document discusses the challenges faced by skilled immigrants in Canada, particularly in finding employment that matches their education and experience. While many immigrants have university degrees or higher, they often face unemployment rates much higher than Canadian-born workers and struggle to have their foreign credentials recognized. Recent immigrants with degrees are five times more likely to be unemployed than similarly educated Canadian-born individuals. Various factors contribute to this "immigrant unemployment gap," including lack of Canadian work experience, discrimination, and devaluation of foreign credentials. While advocacy and support programs exist, highly educated immigrants continue to face significant barriers to having their skills and training fully utilized in Canada's workforce.
