Jenny and her family immigrated to Canada due to the potato famine in Ireland, where her mother later died of typhus. Jenny's father had to work making roads while away from home, so Jenny told people she was an orphan to live in a home. A rich man later adopted Jenny after she told him she had no family. Jenny worked hard on the farm to earn her keep. She worried about her father's well-being since he did not reply to her letters. At a dance, Jenny was reunited with her alive and healthy father.

Canada to live a new life because of the
potato famine. . Jennie’s mother died from
typhus after they arrived

3. The separating
• Jennie’s father had to make roads to
make money. So Jenny had to lie that she
was an orphan to live in a home while the
father was away working.

4. Adoption
• A nice, rich man asked if she had a
family. “No I don’t”. So the man took
Jenny. The mans wife cleaned Jenny up
and made some dinner.

5. Reality
Jenny liked working on the farm. As the
weeks went by Jenny got stronger and
could do more work on the farm. To make
money Jenny had to sell chickens, churn
butter, did laundry, dusted and baked
bread.

6. Where is Father
• Jenny wrote letters to her father and he
did not write back. It was winter, is he safe
or did he die like mother.

7. The dance
• Jenny went to the great hall, a man asked
if she wanted to dance. The man was the
father alive and healthy.
