This document discusses preschool facility needs in Sonoma County. It identifies several preschool programs that need funding to renovate facilities to maintain existing preschool slots or expand capacity. The total one-time cost to maintain 240 slots and expand by 72 slots is $655,395. Creating a $350,000 Preschool Facilities Fund seeded by First 5 Sonoma County could provide funds to address immediate needs, leveraging over $2.3 million in preschool funding annually for the county. The Board is asked to invest $100,000 to match First 5's contribution to the Facilities Fund.

This is how we blend funding to maximize the state and federal contracts and achieve the goal of all children having access to preschool
We have sustained losses and have the need now to both retain the contracts we have that need support, and build infrastructure to accept the newly restored funds to move us toward our goal.
The graphs at the bottom are from the previous presentation showing the likely unmet need in the county and the intention to move toward UPK
3/5 needs are in Roseland
1- Rohnert Park
1 - Petaluma
The community is coming together to support these needs – partnerships are forming across the county and school districts are stepping up when possible. However the need is large (Head Start alone required over $300,000 to move their classrooms) and we are going to address the unfunded needs here.
1 Classroom secured on Temple Street - $50,ooo renovation required
1 Classroom at Kawana Elementary - Bellevue School District will cover renovation. Their long term plan (1-2 years out) is to build a children’s center across the street that would house HS, their special education classrooms, a day care for employees, and possibly a family resource center. HS may contribute to that effort by perhaps building the playground or some other part.
*Potential SRJC (not for presentation), potential SRCS (not for presentation)
NBCC is partnering with Petaluma City School District who is taking care of the Architectural fees, site clearing and hookups
And the school district, private foundations and Rebuilding Together Petaluma are coming together to cover the playground and garden construction ($45k). NBCC is covering the classroom furnishings and educational equipment ($35k).
*The state could grant either NBCC or 4Cs, or both, or neither; grants are awarded in April.
