You will write an 8 page research paper
(not including cover page or references)
that captures relevant theories and empirical research leading to a significant synthesis and analysis of week 4 annotations (you may also include any other annotations that are relevant from weeks 1 and 2). Within your research paper you should seek to categorize, synthesize, and analyze theme (or themes) in the reviewed literature around the topic of leadership. Approach your topic as though you were arguing for funding which might support a vital new step in understanding the changing face of global leadership. While you do not have to actually design a study to the point of specifying research measures of intercultural leader and group behaviors or specify samples, try to evolve your thinking to the point of framing a relevant research topic, problem and question(s) for research to address. This question should be complete enough to suggest why the answers obtained further develop an important theory, address a gap in current models of global and multicultural leadership, or demonstrate an immediate application to solving common organizational problems. Rather than attempting to include as many references as possible, try to emphasize the logical coherence of your evidence of conceptual foundations. Build a rhetorical argument for why your research problem and question(s) are important. An obvious extension of your paper would be to consider using it as a springboard for a dissertation proposal. Your paper could also be useful for the development of Chapter 2 of your Proposal/Dissertation.
Your literature review should include the following elements:
Adherence to APA format (6th Edition), which requires a title page, an abstract, a reference list, and appropriate sections and their headings.
A thorough review of the literature that shows evidence of a potential research opportunity or gap.
Presentation of a clearly defined gap in the research, with a focus on what has and has not been discussed in the academic literature.
The definition of a viable topic for dissertation research (using the aforementioned identified gap as a basis).
A draft problem statement included in your conclusion section.
At least one research question that is demonstrably linked to your problem statement. You do not need to address any hypotheses or design considerations and should include this question in your conclusion section.

3. The papers are written by different authors, in markedly different styles. Can you identify what makes these papers "academic" (other than the fact that they are all published in reputable journals)? How do these papers differ from newspaper articles or blogs (that might or might not be written by experts)?
4. What adds credibility to these papers? What makes published papers an academic/scholarly resource as compared to sources like Wall Street Journal, Wikipedia, Investopedia, blogs, etc.?
The following provides my response to both questions:
In observing each of the three papers, it is noted that the differences in style and approach vary between each group of authors. Still, these papers are deemed as “academic works” through which they each meet the criteria to be accepted as such via the peer review process (Cornell University, 2021). Through this process, articles are examined by multiple other scholars, experts, or academic peers to be reviewed and commented on. Once these reviews agree to the validity and contribution to a field of research then they may be published and deemed as scholarly. Moreover, peer reviewed articles (like these) differ than sources collected from news or general interest pieces as they are not written by members of editorial staff or freelance writers (Cornell University, 2021). Per Cornell University (2021), these types of editorials or contributions to a topic generally are written with no specialty assumed and are written with the purpose of providing general information to appeal to a broad audience of concerned citizens.
5. What does this essay exercise teach you in terms of your own writing style, your own approach to research, and what improvements in your style/approach would help you become a better writer?
This essay exercise is teaching me (as I have not completed my essay) that my writing style is subject to change. One thing I learned is that there are many approach styles and each is dictated based on the purpose of the research being conducted. In evaluating each of the three articles, I found that though each article is similar in the field of study the motivation for the research leads the authors to present their research in a way that supports their purpose. For example, one work is presented as case study evaluation, the second was an exploration of a research question, and the third was an expansion of research for supportive information that is presented in the form of a literature review. As such, I observed different ways to present Headings, Abstracts, and Contextual Support. Moving forward, this exposure to different writing styles will help me better organize and tailor my own work for my intended audience. Any thoughts?

Carefully read through each workflow model.
Does it make sense?
What areas are unclear or confusing?
Are all decision points adequately explained?
What parts need additional detail?

Examine each workflow model using the basic requirements outlined in the Course Project. Consider the following:
Does each draft use standard Visio workflow shapes for start and end points, basic steps, and decision points?
Are all points connected with arrows flowing in the correct direction?
Are swimlanes present to identify who completes each task?
Carefully read through each workflow model.
Does it make sense?
What areas are unclear or confusing?
Are all decision points adequately explained?
What parts need additional detail?
Identify at least one additional gap in each workflow. For example, this may be a redundant task, an unnecessary task, an ineffective system or process, or an area where staff need support. What meaningful use objective or objectives are related to the identified gap?

You are required to produce an analytical paper of c2,500 words (up to 3,000 words), based on the Ascension plc case study and the 3 questions on the next page. Your paper should demonstrate your ability to apply a range of strategic change models to gain constructive insight about the change process within the technical engineering division (TED).
The case study: The case study is on weblearn and is 3 pages long. You must base your analysis on the case study; you are NOT required to do any additional research on the organisation or industry. The questions, the assessment criteria, report structure and some suggested reading can be found on the next two pages of this briefing.
Use of tables: For each question you must apply one or more change models (as per the questions on the next page). You must create a table or diagram containing each element of the model and populate it with data from the case study using bullet points. The information in tables, diagrams or the end reference section will not be included in the word count. There are marks awarded for “application of key models using relevant data from the case”.
Discussion of table content: It is not enough to just populate the tables. For each model you must also discuss your findings (in full sentences after the table). Do not mention everything in the table. Tell the reader what the most important factors are based on your analysis. You can use the prompt notes in the questions to help e.g. to focus your discussion on the most challenging aspects of the change context for question 1. There are marks for “Discussion of findings demonstrates depth of understanding of the case and the theory and some originality in thinking.” So, if you just have the table and no discussion or discussion but no table then you will lose valuable marks.
Evidence of academic reading: for every question you must demonstrate some academic reading about the model you are using (academic text books or academic journal articles rather than internet sources). However, you should not describe the models in detail e.g. you don’t need to explain what Johnson means by ‘stories’ or ‘symbols’; it will be clear from your analysis that you understand this. You should reference your academic reading using the Harvard system (at least four different academic sources). An example could be to use the core text book and find a quote where the authors explain the purpose of the change kaleidoscope. Books and articles that will help with this are listed on the page 3 of this briefing. There are marks awarded for “evidence of academic reading. At least four different academic sources cited” so you will lose marks if you don’t do this. You must use in-text references (in the main body of your report) and an end reference list. You will lose valuable marks if you simply list four different books at the end of.

Leontief (1954) incorrectly inferred that the United States is revealed
by trade to be relatively more abundant in labor than in capital from
the fact that the capital per man in imports exceeds the capital per
man in exports. The counterexample in Leamer (1980) is in error,
however, since it uses commodity prices at which the first commodity
is not economically produced. This is easily remedied by setting the
price vector to (2, 1, 1) instead of (1, 1, 1). Then, by the series of
calculations outlined in Leamer (1980), it is possible to compute the
ratio of capital per man in exports to capital per man in imports to be
0.97, even though capital is the relatively abundant factor.
Incidentally, the error in the choice of prices is revealed by the
computation of the returns to factors, which for the original numbers
contains a negative return to capital.

Organizational Structure and Design
The way an organization is designed and structured can have significant effects on its members and its ability to execute its strategy. In this module we will try to understand those effects and analyze the behavioral implications of different organizational designs.
An organizational structure defines how job tasks are formally divided, grouped, and coordinated. According to Robbins and Judge (2014), managers need to address six key elements when they design their organization’s structure:
Work specialization – the extent to which activities are subdivided into separate jobs.
Departmentalization – the basis on which jobs will be grouped together.
Chain of command – the people who individuals and groups report to.
Span of control – the number of individuals that a manager can direct efficiently and effectively.
Centralization and de-centralization – the locus of decision-making authority.
Formalization – the extent to which there will be rules and regulations to direct employees and managers.
One way to gain insight into the complexity of organizations and how organizations are structured or designed is through metaphors. For example, using metaphors, an organization can be talked about as if it were a machine or as if it were an organism. The organization that is like a machine is characterized by extensive departmentalization, high formalization, and limited by low formalization, flat hierarchy and the use of cross-hierarchical and cross-functional teams, free flow of information, and decentralization. Each design has advantages and disadvantages. For example, organizations that are like machines are often good at keeping the costs of standardized products or services down, but could inhibit innovation and creativity. as there are people who have tried to define it. Although we intuitively know what the word means, it has different meaning for different people. Manning and Curtis (2012) explained, "Leadership is social influence. It means leaving a mark. It is initiating and guiding, and the result is change" (p. 2).

Chapter 1 of the text goes into much detail about defining terrorism and the types of terrorism.
What exactly constitutes terrorism and why does it seem so complicated to define? This article
from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI, 2021) defines terrorism as a "contested term, with
no set definition for the concept or broad agreement among academic experts on its usage "
(para. 1). Is it really that difficult to define? It’s a word and as such it should just be in any old
dictionary or textbook glossary and boom there's the definition. Is it more complicated than that?
To answer my own question, yes, it is very complicated. But at least I’m not alone in the
complicatedness of defining terrorism as it seems like the FBI is having problems too. The article
notes that “the recent spate of extremist attacks in the United States and Europe have highlighted
the difficulty of defining what constitutes ‘terrorism’” (FBI, 2021, para. 2). Here, The FBI
focuses on recent examples extremism to attempt to answer the question, even giving the readers
an account of some of the recent terroristic attacks and how the relate to terrorism and
extremism. By the end of the article the question remains unclear and unanswered, making this
task of defining terrorism that much more confusing.
The pro of this article is that there were some real-world examples. These help show the
complicated nature of defining terrorism.
The article would have been more interesting if there were some frontline details, like the
definition from the FBI’s perspective, especially given it’s the leading legal enforcement
mechanism in the country.

The case study: The case study is on weblearn and is 3 pages long. You must base your analysis on the case study; you are NOT required to do any additional research on the organisation or industry. Use of tables: For each question you must apply one or more change models (as per the questions on the next page). You must create a table or diagram containing each element of the model and populate it with data from the case study using bullet points. The information in tables, diagrams or the end reference section will not be included in the word count. There are marks awarded for “application of key models using relevant data from the case”.
Discussion of table content: It is not enough to just populate the tables. For each model you must also discuss your findings (in full sentences after the table). Do not mention everything in the table. Tell the reader what the most important factors are based on your analysis. You can use the prompt notes in the questions to help e.g. to focus your discussion on the most challenging aspects of the change context for question 1. Evidence of academic reading: for every question you must demonstrate some academic reading about the model you are using (academic text books or academic journal articles rather than internet sources). Leontief (1954) incorrectly inferred that the United States is revealed
by trade to be relatively more abundant in labor than in capital from
the fact that the capital per man in imports exceeds the capital per
man in exports. The counterexample in Leamer (1980) is in error,
however, since it uses commodity prices at which the first commodity
is not economically produced. This is easily remedied by setting the
price vector to (2, 1, 1) instead of (1, 1, 1). Then, by the series of
calculations outlined in Leamer (1980), it is possible to compute the
ratio of capital per man in exports to capital per man in imports to be
0.97, even though capital is the relatively abundant factor.
Incidentally, the error in the choice of prices is revealed by the
computation of the returns to factors, which for the original numbers
contains a negative return to capital.

Organizational Structure and Design
The way an organization is designed and structured can have significant effects on its members and its ability to execute its strategy. In this module we will try to understand those effects and analyze the behavioral implications of different organizational designs.
An organizational structure defines how job tasks are formally divided, grouped, and coordinated. According to Robbins and Judge (2014), managers need to address six key elements when they design their organization’s structure:
Work specialization – the extent to which activities are subdivided into separate jobs.
Departmentalization – the basis on which jobs will be grouped together.
Chain of command – the people who individuals and groups report to.
Span of control – the number of individuals that a manager can direct efficiently and effectively.
Centralization and de-centralization – the locus of decision-making authority.
Formalization – the extent to which there will be rules and regulations to direct employees and managers.
One way to gain insight into the complexity of organizations and how organizations are structured or designed is through metaphors. For example, using metaphors, an organization can be talked about as if it were a machine or as if it were an organism. The organization that is like a machine is characterized by extensive departmentalization, high formalization, and limited by low formalization, flat hierarchy and the use of cross-hierarchical and cross-functional teams, free flow of information, and decentralization. Each design has advantages and disadvantages. For example, organizations that are like machines are often good at keeping the costs of standardized products or services down, but could inhibit innovation and creativity. Chapter 1 of the text goes into much detail about defining terrorism and the types of terrorism.
What exactly constitutes terrorism and why does it seem so complicated to define? This article
from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI, 2021) defines terrorism as a "contested term, with
no set definition for the concept or broad agreement among academic experts on its usage "
(para. 1). Is it really that difficult to define? It’s a word and as such it should just be in any old
dictionary or textbook glossary and boom there's the definition. Is it more complicated than that?
To answer my own question, yes, it is very complicated. But at least I’m not alone in the
complicatedness of defining terrorism as it seems like the FBI is having problems too. The article
notes that “the recent spate of extremist attacks in the United States and Europe have highlighted
the difficulty of defining what constitutes ‘terrorism’” (FBI, 2021, para. 2). Here, The FBI
focuses on recent examples extremism to attempt to answer the question, even giving the readers
an account of some of the recent terroristic attacks and how the relate to terrorism and
extremism. By the end of the article the question remains unclear and unanswered, making this
task of defining terrorism that much more confusing.
The pro of this article is that there were some real-world examples. These help show the
complicated nature of defining terrorism.
The article would have been more interesting if there were some frontline details, like the
definition from the FBI’s perspective, especially given it’s the leading legal enforcement
mechanism in the country.

LAND USE LAND COVER AND NDVI OF MIRZAPUR DISTRICT, UP
This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
