3. In Paris With You
• The poem has a very negative attitude
towards love as the poem deals with a
rebound relationship which is a key theme.
• Evidence to support this is: “don’t talk to me
of love” (stanza 1 line no 1)
• This portrays that the man is tired of love and
relationships.
• Furthermore this shows he doesn’t want to be
involved in a loving relationship.
4. In Paris With You
• The poem is set in Paris; we can tell this
because of the title “in Paris with you”. As the
reader reads on we learn that the man has
taken the woman to Paris as he is on the
rebound after his last relationship
ended/failed. The poem is written in 1st
person narrative through the use of “i’m in
Paris with you” which allows us to understand
how the man is feeling.
5. In Paris With You
• The poet uses many poetic devices such as
repetition “don’t talk to me of love”. This
conveys he is sick of talking about love.
Moreover this suggests that his last
relationship has made him feel extremely
negative/resentful about women and love.
6. In Paris With You
• The poem is structure into 5 stanzas and takes
the reader through his journey after his last
relationship has ended and then into the new
sexual relationship with a new woman. He clearly
had no intention of seeing the sights of Paris as
there is evidence to support the fact that they are
exploring each other. “all points south”. This
indicates that they are talking about sex.
Moreover he is acting detached from the woman
and showing that he is only interested in purely
one thing, sex.
7. In Paris With You
• The poem is written as a diary almost of a love
song as there is a chorus almost “I'm in Paris
with you”. Moreover this poem is very
personal in terms of the details the speaker
offers in relation to the sexual activities they
are participating in “I'm in Paris with you”.
• This also emphasises that he just wants sex.
8. In Paris With You
• In conclusion the themes of this poem include
sex, love, and rebound relationships and it
makes me feel sympathetic towards the
speaker. The reason for this is because he
says: “ I don’t care where are we bound”. This
highlights how he is feeling, namely detached
and wants to have sex with a woman with no
feelings.
