ASSIGNMENT – 1 [IM]
1. Neoclassical theory deals withtwostreams. What are they?
A-Theneoclassical theory having two streams dealing with human factors viz:
 Human Behavior
 Behavioral Science Approach
2. What do you mean by differential wage system?
A- Taylor’s Differential Piece Rate Scheme provides an in-center for a worker to
achieve high level of optimum output. It distinguishes the more productive
workers fromless productiveworkers.
3. Organizationis treatedas a system. Showpictorially.
A-
4. Why is forecasting done before planning?
A- Forecasting is the estimation of futuredata by casting forward the pastdata. A
suitable method must be chosen to estimate a correctfuture data. Itis required
for better planning.
5. What do you mean by unity of command?
A- This principle implies that each employee should receive instructions about a
particular work fromone superior only. Similarly an individual has to reportto a
single superior or boss only. Fayolbelieved that if an employee was to report
more than one superior, he/shewould be confused due to conflict in instructions
and it would be difficult to pin point responsibility to him.
6. What is SWOT analysis?
A- While planning one should know the strength (S), weakness (W), opportunities
(O) and threats (T). These factors should be analyzed in the light of the market
competition, customer requirements, etc.
7. What do you mean by Span of Control?
A- The Span of Control is nothing but the number of sub- ordinates assigned to
work under a boss. The Span of control should be as minimum as possiblefor
better management. Its valueshould be M-8. Generally, 6.
8. Why authority is delegated?
A- Proper authority should be delegated to the lower level of the organization.
The authority delegated should be equal to responsibility i.e each manager should
have enough authority to accomplish the task assigned to him.
9. What are the functions of line head inline and staff organizational structure?
A- The line heads are the executer. They look after on the progress of work as per
the planning. The line officers/heads havedefinite responsibility and authority.
The sub- ordinates receive order fromthe line heads and reportto them about
the progress of work.
10. What are the different types of leadership? Whichone is the best?
A- The different types of leaderships are-
 Authoritarian/ Dictatorial Leadership.
 Democratic Leadership.
 Free Rein/ Laissez FaireLeadership.
Democracy Leadership is the best as it involves a two way communication
between the leader and its sub-ordinates.
