The International Lunar Observatory Association is proposing to build a global headquarters and education/research center on Hawaii Island to support their moon mission activities. The facility would direct moon missions, receive and process mission data, conduct instrument testing, and manage international relations. It would also host local students and educators and employ scientists to conduct astronomy and planetary science research. The 2500 square foot complex would be located near existing observatories in Kamuela/Waimea for easy access to telescopes. The project would advance Hawaii's leadership in astronomy without additional development on Mauna Kea, and provide employment and education opportunities for the local community.
