Reading Programme presentation I gave about my goals for merging reading and technology together. Ultimately teaching 11-12 years to learn to think to think to learn and embrace the rapidly changing forms of literacy around us. Not really an expert on the topic... just what I have seen work in my class.
What is a Screencast and Why Would I Use One?
A screencast is a digital recording of a computer screen that can include mouse actions, browser changes, video, and audio narration. Screencasts can be used to save time repeating instructions, provide tech support 24/7, and allow students to learn at their own pace by rewatching lessons. They also support flipped classroom models where students watch lectures at home and practice in class, engage online learners, and allow teachers to provide feedback and parents to follow student progress.
16 Ways: SLEDcc Presentation
This document outlines 16 different pedagogical approaches for using Second Life in the classroom, including adding a visual element to explain concepts, hosting an interactive library of resources, role playing with predetermined roles and scenarios, simulations, creating and playing learning games, using it for skill development, research, virtual field trips, social activities, anonymity, machinima creation, recruitment, awareness promotion, building, and open participative learning communities. It recommends starting with establishing a comfort zone, doing an induction with students, setting clear expectations for how students will learn, finding the right balance of structure, encouraging exploration and collaboration, considering assessment models, and having students document their experiences.
Unit and lesson plan development
The document provides guidance for developing a 4-day unit plan to teach at summer camp. Stop, Animate & Listen CUEBOLD
This lesson plan teaches students how to create stop motion animation videos. It includes modeling how to make a stop motion video using Google Slides. Students will work in groups to practice storytelling and listening skills. They will then create their own stop motion videos on a given topic and provide feedback to other groups. At the end, students will reflect on and present their videos.
Flipped
The document provides guidance on flipping the classroom using a KWL chart approach. It discusses that the flip model can vary by teacher, grade, and subject. It encourages teachers to utilize class time for student engagement and involvement. Recommendations are made to start small with technology, involve students, plan classroom structure, and use available district resources.

Setup, Design and Planning Each group needs to use the student portfolio as a guide for what needs to be achieved (‘milestone’) Have a good understanding of the roles required for each project team eg. What makes a good BLOG entry Concise (short), straight to the point As blogs are date stamped, there must be a blog entry for every lesson spent on the project (you can’t blog at the last minute!!) Privacy Never disclose your fullname, location, sex, age or other private information indentifying you or others. When photographing things, be aware of people’s privacy (no faces, uniforms)
- 13. How Good is this Project! Consider Time Spending a period in class building your set may not be a wise use of the time (do it at home) Come to class ready to maximise time; shooting, editing and blogging. Check-in with the Portfolio guide – this contains milestones and when they’re due. Pride in your work Everyone will get an opportunity to see other people’s animations – make them GREAT!!

- Creative Thinking Skills – Jesus often preached using Parables. Students will be taken through a series of lessons decoding the message behind a Parable highlighting that Jesus wanted to provoke thought and critical reflection about his message. Creative Thinking Skills were modeled by Jesus as a vehicle of expression. Communication and Collaboration Skills – Students will work in Project Teams of 4 to depict one Commandment and One Beatitude in a Stop Motion Animation sequence. Group roles will be clearly defined and articulated eg. ‘a set designer will be responsible for designing the set or stage for the animation to occur. They will need to deliver a suitable set which clearly reflects the design as per the script/storyboard by the desired date”.
