- James Joyce was born in Dublin in 1882 and wrote several famous works set in Dublin depicting realist portraits of everyday life, including Dubliners (1905), A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man (1916), and Ulysses (1922).
- His style evolved from realism to incorporating interior monologue and symbolism. Dubliners consists of 15 short stories arranged in stages of life from childhood to maturity, dealing with themes of paralysis under restrictive social and cultural traditions.
- His final and most famous work, Ulysses, was published serially from 1918-1920 and portrayed a single day in Dublin through stream-of-consciousness narration incorporating various literary techniques. Joyce focused on offering European

Bioethics is the study of ethical issues arising from biotechnology and its applications in areas like abortion, assisted suicide, organ transplants, and genetic modification. These issues are complex with reasonable arguments on both sides, as viewpoints can differ on when life begins, the role of religion in medical decisions, and the risks and benefits of new technologies. Resolving questions in bioethics is challenging given differences in philosophical and religious perspectives.
2. L’INFORMATICA
QUANTISTICA
• L’informatica quantistica è la
branca di studi che si concentra
sullo sviluppo di una tecnologia
informatica basata sulla teoria
dei quanti. L’obiettivo è quello
di sviluppare computer che,
seguendo i principi della fisica
quantistica, abbiano un’enorme
capacità di calcolo.
• Alla base del funzionamento dei
computer quantistici c’è il
’’qubit’’.
3. IL QUBIT
• I bit quantici, noti come qubit, operano
in modo diverso dai normali bit dei
computer, poiché possono assumere
contemporaneamente i due stati del bit
“classico” e valere “0” e “1” allo stesso
tempo. Ciò consente ai computer
quantici di elaborare le informazioni in
modo più veloce e sofisticato per
risolvere problemi estremamente
complessi.
• Alla base di tutto questo ci sono la
sovrapposizione, l’entanglement, il
principio di indeterminazione di
Heisenberg: concetti della teoria quanto-
meccanica che non approfondiremo.
4. PROGETTI DI COMPUTER QUANTISTICI• Gli scienziati di google stanno
lavorando al computer del
futuro, una macchina capace
di risolvere in poco più di 3
minuti calcoli che agli attuali
computer più potenti della
Terra richiederebbero 10.000
anni.
• Nonostante le ambizioni, i
risultati al giorno d’oggi sono
pochi, a causa di
complicazioni che tratteremo
nella prossima slide.
5. I PROBLEMI• Per il funzionamento della
tecnologia quantistica sono
necessarie temperature molto
basse vicino allo zero assoluto
(circa -273° C)
• Il computer quantistico deve essere
perfettamente isolato da qualsiasi
interferenza per non avere
problemi nella fase di calcolo.
• Inoltre, all’interno di questo
delicatissimo sistema, è molto
difficile intervenire per la
correzione di errori e nel recupero
di dati.
