Background
• ISRIC elected as ‘Soil Data Facility’ of GSP-Pillar 4
• Period: 2017 - 2020
• SDF: “the technical backbone of the [GLOSIS] spatial data
infrastructure” (P4IP).
• Key task SDF (P4IP):
• host, develop, maintain important elements of the SDI
needed for a distributed system

Contribution to Pillar 4
• Active participation in the Pillar 4 working group.
• Developed a vision for the GLOSIS implementation as a
federated system and technical document on T1&T2
databases. [in 2018, finalization in 2019. Now on the table for
endorsement, Items #Va, #Vc.]
• In 2019 focus on development of the GLOSIS data exchange
service based on state-of-the art standards (much more in
Item #Va).

• Host soil data exchange consultancy kick-off meeting with

on:
• spectral metadata and spectral data exchange
• Inventory of needs and capacity of soil labs for spectral
measurements

• SDF is a non-funded position; ISRIC finances its position
from own sources
• SDF contribution for 2019 is 160,000 EUR (>10% of our core
funding)
