Anti-Drone Warfare Coalition
I will describe the newly formed Pittsburgh Anti-Drone-Warfare Coalition and the actions that we have taken and are planning to take to end drone warfare.
This is a presentation on the legality of the prisoners being held at Guantanamo Bay. It compares prisoner of war status to enemy combatant status. Also addresses human rights and juveniles. It was for a class on Applied Human RIghts Law taken at Webster University in Leiden, the Netherlands.
In this research paper, I attempt to construct a consistent, malleable conceptualization of the contemporary drone. I draw on a wide variety of academic papers, articles, opinion pieces, and sources - The Intercept, Donna Harraway in the Feminist Studies journal, Pew Research Center etc.

We've created this brief presentation to insert some sense & sensibility into the current Gun Control debate in the United States. We put facts forward comprehensively, and editorialize on the causes & solutions associated with Gun Violence.
GUNSENSE! is a volunteer organization based in Salt Lake City, Utah, dedicated to exposing the epidemic of lethal violence incurred by profit-driven, unregulated gun ownership.

Since 1992, the world has gotten faster, smaller, and significantly more connected. We’ve seen increases in global literacy, access to water, and life expectancy. We’ve experienced a communication revolution, a technology revolution, and more recently, a series of very powerful people-powered revolutions. The world is by many indicators actually a smarter, safer, and more loving place than it was when back then. It’s hardly the same planet as it was in 1992 – perhaps almost unrecognizable to those who’ve been hibernating in their Doug Drabek jerseys – and we’re better off for it.
The Fear Of Facing Your Fears
We already know the answer to most of our so-called problems in life, and we also know how to get over our fears but, we choose not to acknowledge these answers for fear that we will then have to become “responsible” for the resolution of our problems and fears.
Building a Data-Driven City
Pittsburgh has incredible tech resources but Pittsburgh city government has not created the partnerships that could allow all residents to benefit from them. Let’s work together to make Pittsburgh a data-driven city!
Success = (Health + Happiness) x Hustle
There’s no secret to success. A high I.Q. is no guarantThe Fear Of Facing Your Fearsee and talent is overrated. In my opinion success is an equation; Success = (health + happiness) x hustle.
Motivation vs. Power Generator
We think of ourselves as either being motivated or demotivated. But the truth is, we are all motivated all the time! What the CEO’s, professional athletes, and highest of achievers have built is not motivation, but their very own Power Generator.
Redefining Sustainability
What makes a good restaurant? Organic? Locally-sourced? What about a living wage? In our booming restaurant industry, consumers want the best food & experience they can get. I’m going to show you how that’s possible.
Designing with your eyes closed: Improving Accessibility for the Blind
I am going to introduce the audience to the current state of technology available to the blind, and then talk about how we can do better!
Made Right Here
We have a project consortium to build a system of support so that start-ups who are making products will do so locally or domestically. We have developed a supply chain network to help with organized labor and work primarily with CMU spin-off firms: usabuildsit.com.

4. Where Are Drones Used?
U.S. government has increasingly deployed them
in the Middle East, South Asia, and Africa.
Especially in Pakistan, Somalia, and Yemen.
The United States is not officially at war with these
countries.
5. Drone Warfare Doesn’t Make the
U.S. Safer
For every one person killed by drones, several
enemies of the U.S. are created.
U.S. strikes have helped recruitment to violent
armed groups and motivated more violent attacks.
Three quarters of Pakistanis now consider the
United States to be an enemy.
6. Impact of Drone Warfare:
• U.S. drone strikes have killed
100’s of civilians in Pakistan –
including whole households.
• Families are afraid to attend
weddings or funerals because of
U.S. drone strikes.
• Civilians live in constant fear
since drones could strike at any time.
• U.S. drones have facilitated recruitment to
violent non-state armed groups.
7. U.S. Drone Strikes Violate
International Law
A recent Congressional Research Service report stated that
drone strikes run afoul of international law.
International law experts say that attacks on civilian rescuers
are clearly illegal.
Many drone strikes may constitute war crimes according to …
Amnesty International
Human Rights Watch
Christof Heyns, the U.N. special rapporteur on extrajudicial killings
Richard Falk, Professor of International Affairs at Princeton University
8. U.S. Drone Strikes Violate
U.S. Law
Judge Katherine Forrest ruled that the 2001 Authorization to
Use Military Force did not cover mere "supporters" of such
groups.
She questioned whether it covered "associated forces.“
Under this ruling "signature strikes" and "secondary strikes"
would be illegal under U.S. law.
“Outside of armed conflict, the use of drones for targeted
killings is almost never likely to be legal” -- Phillip Alston, Law
Professor.
9. U.S. Drone Strikes Violate
the Magna Carta
The Magna Carta is the basis of our legal system.
It recognized that anybody accused of a crime has a right to
be judged by a jury of one’s peers.
With drones, the President and his advisers arrogate to
themselves the role of judge, jury and executioner.
Drones nullify gains in human rights dating back to 1215.
10. Drones Are Coming to the U.S.
• Metropolitan police and county sheriffs are acquiring smaller
drones to assist their SWAT operations.
• Congress recently mandated that the Federal Aviation
Administration open domestic airspace to private and
commercial drones by 2015.
• Congress also required the FAA to speed up the licensing of
government drones -- military, homeland security, and law
enforcement -- in commercial U.S. airways.
• A drone operating base just opened in Horsham, PA (outside
of Philadelphia).
• Drones use technology developed at CMU.
