This presentation explores the “Water-Energy Nexus” and redefines the boundaries of a water-energy project. This newly developed conceptual framework can be used by the water industry and policy makers to rethink their approach to water-energy conservation programs.
The Global Futures and Strategic Foresight (GFSF) team met in Rome from May 25-28, 2015 to review progress towards current work plans, discuss model improvements and technical parameters, and consider possible contributions by the GFSF program to the CRP Phase II planning process. All 15 CGIAR Centers were represented at the meeting.
Real-time water monitoring is an easy-to-implement solution that allowed one building to reduce total consumption by 45% in one year, saving over 1.5 million gallons of water and nearly $13,000 on the annual water bill. This session will define water management best practices and demonstrate how to optimize scheduling, identify reduction target areas, and detect faulty equipment.

Green infrastructure policy for stormwater infiltrationEvan Pratt
Viewers will get an overview of policy changes to require infiltration as a strategy to address stormwater quality and quantity in Washtenaw County, along with a link to a wide range of resources including the 150+ page regulations and case studies that show cost savings for greenfield developments. Design storms have increased nearly 20% in volume in the past 30 years in the target area, so existing infrastructure no longer meets the needs it was designed for. Older infrastructure was already overwhelmed.
Community Microgrids: Savings and resilience for local governments (1/25/18)Clean Coalition

Funding Infrastructure Investments with Guaranteed PerformanceSchneider Electric
Municipalities are dealing with numerous financial constraints, and trying to improve or expand systems is often trumped by maintaining deteriorating assets. Discover the potential benefits of Performance Contracting (PC). PC is an alternate delivery method to the traditional CIP process for the implementation of operational cost saving and energy saving projects. While the PC process has been used extensively in municipal buildings for decades -- primarily for HVAC and lighting improvements -- it has only recently begun to be used by water and wastewater utilities for process-centric improvements to treatment plants, pump/lift stations and other assets.

Editor's Notes
If we are going to spend $1-$2 B, we need to think about the nature of the investment and how to get as much value for it as we possibly can –
– and how that investment can not only clean water but also green the city.
