4. A WORLD OF INSIGHTS
• Many respondents use laptops in classroom with students or on a production/factory
floor. Other non-traditional extreme environment uses include many outdoor scenarios:
camping, outdoor retail, or in traffic and at loading docks.
• Of those using laptops in non-traditional office settings, 50% report laptops need to be
replaced at least every 2-3 years.
• Normal wear and tear is the main reason for laptop replacement. Features/functions
outdates or dropped laptops are also relatively common reasons. Lost or stolen laptops
are also more likely to occur in these non-traditional settings.
• Endpoint security is by far the top IT concern related to supporting laptops at
organizations with backup/data recovery following.
• When purchasing a laptop, reliability is the most important factor with 99% reporting this
is either critical or very important. Laptop capabilities and security features are also
important criteria followed by cost and upfront hardware price.

Quicker time to market more important for enterprise orgs (1,000+) than SMB and midmarket (<1,000), while improved uptime is rated higher by smaller businesses
