The stakeholder is a young German
who has just finished her bachelor
study with an average GPA from an
university located in her hometown and
she needs a way to deal with her
insecurity, because she is scared of
anything that is new to her
although it catches her attention
and interest.
Getting advice from…
1. Relatives, particularly her mother as she trusts her very much
2. Her friends as they know her strengths and weaknesses
3. Her sister, as she might have been in the same situation although she does not know it
4. Career assessment experts from her university or institutions focused on career
development. They can help her figuring out how and in which kind of jobs she can tap into
her potential
5. A psychologist to get different perspectives
6. Former professors from the fields she interested in so that she can get objective
perspectives on possible career opportunities
7. Former superior (boss) from internships or student jobs as they can give feedback on her
strengths, weaknesses and opportunities.
8. Former co-workers from internships or student jobs as they know how she works
10. Her father, but mostly regarding other opportunities than working for
his firm. She maybe surprised how supportive he can be if she tells him
what she wants and what she is afraid about
11. From a specific group of friend or relatives that she picks who can all
together discuss her opportunities with her. In this way she can get
various perspectives at the same time
Strategic moves…

the pressure of any superior (it can even be something small like
baking cupcakes and selling them to friends and families) and in the
meantime she can look for jobs (no gap in the CV)
17. Finding a or various student jobs so she is not depended on the money her father is
giving her and she has more time to prepare for interviews and to find interesting jobs
18. Studying a master program in a flied she is interested in (as she already knows what she likes to do)
19. Applying to jobs that she is not interested in order to earn experience from it and to implement the
feedback she receives and observes to the application processes she is actually interested in
20. Ask her parents for some time to figures out what to do (financial stability)
21. Accompanying relatives or friends to their jobs for a couple of days in order to get an idea of their jobs
23. Going to see or take courses of a motivator like Anthony Robbins
9. From a support group for young adults with similar experiences and fears
25. Looking for opportunities in other countries as the requirements

using colors organizing her CV in an “theme” order not in a chronological order
33. Organizing the job offers in different categories: for example category one are the most
interesting and best fitted jobs, category two and the jobs she is interested in but she has
less chances, category three are jobs etc

before entering the job market
42. Analyzing the possibility of combining any studies with a job so
that she keeps her “safe zone” of something that she knows to do
43. As the salary is important to her, can analyze the industries she
has the best chances for obtaining a good salary
44. Checking with her friends where they are applying for jobs or
studies (particularly when it is outside her hometown) so that she looks
for jobs in the same cities; in this way she would not be alone in a city
that she does not know
45. Looking for job vacancies according to the cities she is interested in living
46. Looking for courses and academic studies according to the cities she is

whether she should focus on the field she is actually interested in
27. Announcing in Facebook that she is looking for a job, maybe somebody knows about a vacancy
49. Evaluating each application process in order to identify what she should
change or improve
50. Identifying all her fears in order to find strategies to deal with them
50 POSSIBLE IDEAS/ SOLUTIONS
The stakeholder is a young German
who has just finished her bachelor
study with an average GPA from an
university located in her hometown and
she needs a way to deal with her
insecurity, because she is scared of
anything that is new to her
although it catches her attention
and interest.
SELECTED IDEAS
i. the most practical idea (one that could be easily implemented):
Idea number 4. “Getting advice from career assessment experts from her university or institutions focused on career development. They can
help her figuring out how and in which kind of jobs she can tap into her potential”. It is the most practical one as they can give her an
objective opinion on her career possibilities (best fit vs. her strengths and weaknesses) and guide her through the application process
ii. the most disruptive idea (one that would make a huge impact, regardless of how feasible or affordable it is)
Idea number 14: “Taking an specialization course in a field of her interest in order to distinguish herself from the mass”. She feels insecure
that she has not enough expert knowledge for the jobs she is interested in. Additional and more specialized courses can give her confidence
and make her stick out from the mass (it shows motivation and direction)
iii. your favorite idea (one idea that you are excited about for whatever reason... you don’t have to justify why)
Idea number 10: “Getting advice from her father, but mostly regarding other opportunities than working for his firm. She maybe surprised
how supportive he can be if she tells him what she wants and what she is afraid about”. She feels pressured by him although she has never
told me that she is not interested in another field as she does not want to let him down. However, she misses an exceptional opportunity to
learn from her fathers experience. Her father has succeeded in what she is dreaming about: a stable and happy lifestyle. He can give her very
valuable insights and tips as he has worked as an employee and employer so that he has both perspectives. Furthermore, it can help them
establish a relationship based on more trust.
I do not feel prepared to start
working, I do not know how I
can apply anything that I
learned during my studies
People will not take me seriously, I am so
young and inexperienced
Why can´t there be an option where I can
continue studying while I earn money
Today the salaries are too low; I might
even earn more with some student jobs
Not like others, I do not know what I
want. I do not know which position
or industry is the best fit for me
What if I decide for a job but at the
end I do not like it, but it is so
difficult to find jobs so I might have
to stay there and I will not be able to
re-concentrate on a new area
I am too young, I want to continue
experimenting and discovering the
different career options
My father wants me to work for his
company; at least until I am sure what I want
Companies prefer to hire people without
a degree from an university because they
can offer lower salaries to them
I do know how to apply correctly to a
vacancy and I have neither experiences
with formal job interviews
Most of the interesting jobs are outside
from my city but I cannot imagine to live
far away from my family and friends
I envy my sister for her self-confidence
She looks frequently for vacancies
She seldom applies for vacancies
She never sends an application
without checking it with her mother
She has never done a follow up call to
the company where she applied for a
vacancy
She likes to fantasize about
future positions
I want to be independent from my
family, but I am scared to be
independent from them
She applies first to positions she is
not that much interested in so
that she can obtain feedback that
she can apply to future
applications
She uses mainly her university´s
job search browser
I do not want to miss any time
with my friends and family
I will not obtain what I am
looking for
I want a high salary but I have to get
used to the idea that I will not obtain it
A company will take
advantage of my shy and
insecure personality
I know that I deserve more
than I am looking for but I do
not want to get disappointed
Why is my father pushing me to
a job that I am not interested inI am not like my sister and I am
tired that I always get
compared to her
I actually have an idea in
which career paths I am
interesting it but I would
narrow down my job options
Will I take the correct decision when I
have to decide for a job? I want to
share the responsibility
I am not good enough
I care about my friends and family
I have the support of my mum
I am disappointing my dad
I feel like I am the only one who faces this
problem
I am disappointing myself
I want to be like my sister
I am scared to be on my own when I
start working (no friends working
with me)
I know what I want but I am scared to say it
I love to dream although I am
scared that it will stay a dream
I will not succeed on my own
Problem Statement
The stakeholder is a young German who has just finished her bachelor study with an
average GPA from an university located in her hometown and needs a way to deal with
her insecurity, because she is scared of anything that is new to her although it catches her
attention and interest.
Insights
It is surprising to see how she thinks that she protects herself from any disappointment
by not saying what her interests and strengths are, because in this way she puts her
expectations as low as possible so that it is more likely to achieve anything at all.
Moreover, it is surprising that she actually knows that she wants to make a career, be
independent, earn a good salary , but she looks for excuses to make her feel less and stop
dreaming about what she wants. It is challenging to observe how much she depends on
her mother while she feels very pressured by her father and the image of her sister.
I do not know what to do if I
don´t find a job
