1. The music video will tell the story of a young girl struggling with body image through different shots and scenes taking place in various locations of a house.
2. While featuring typical elements of R&B music videos like suggestive clothing, makeup, and displays of wealth, it will diverge from the genre norm by directly addressing the serious issue of body image, which is atypical for R&B songs.
3. Low key lighting and cutaways between scenes will be used to set a moody atmosphere and convey different periods of the girl's experience over the course of the narrative video.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
1. Ideas Generation Laura Slater
My song is Pretty Hurts by Beyoncé. The genre of the music video is R’n’B and the target
audience is young girls 15-25.
Characters
There is only going to be one character is the music video. This is so that it relates to one
girls story and relates it to the song properly. We are going to use a young girl that will
be heavily made up to show how she is conscious of the way she looks from the outside.
This relates to some of the lyrics in the song “We try to fix something but you can’t fix
something that you can’t see, it’s the sole that needs the surgery” the girl will be wearing
minimal clothing to show how she represents herself and her body. As well as this she
will also be wearing jewelry and expensive clothing to show that from the outside her
lifestyle looks desirable but actually inside she is very upset and hurt. Through this
character we want to show her sexuality in a very minimalistic way.
Narrative
The style of video will be narrative. We will use the video to tell the story of the girl
through different shots. The cut away’s also tell different parts of the girl’s story. Even
though the video will be quite conceptual some features of it will not be iconic of an
R’n’B music video. One feature that will not be iconic is the genre is the issue that we are
referring to in the song. In R’n’B songs serious issues are not normally addressed. This is
why our music video is different in this way. Body image is a serious issue with young
girls today and this is relating to the issue directly. On the other hand the video will be
conceptual as sexuality will be used to show how the girl presents herself which is very
present in R’n’B music videos.
Iconography
One thing that is iconic of our music video is the sexuality of the girl shown throughout.
She is wearing minimalistic clothing which is a good representation of the genre of
R’n’B. As well as this the girl is also wearing a lot of make-up, which shows the
glamourous side to the genre.
Setting
The setting of the music video is going to be shot mainly inside of a house. Different
locations in the house will be used to create different scenes and different parts of the
video. For example shots of the girl on a big staircase, in a bedroom, and also inside of a
swimming pool. Using this location also relates to the genre of the music, as it shows the
lavish lifestyle of R’n’B.
Style
The lighting used in the video will be low key lighting. This is so that it creates an
atmosphere and creates the mood that the song is about a serious subject. The sound
will also be non- diegetic and the singing will be over the video. As well as this we may
also include some still picture shots. Cut away’s will also be used in the music video to
show different sections and periods of time. This is a good editing technique as it shows
different periods of time.
Neale’s ‘Mental Machinery’:
There will be some conventional features used throughout the video. For example using
the character of a young girl dressed in provocative clothing. This is quite conventional
of R’n’B music. As well as this another feature that is conventional of an R’n’B music
video is the amount that wealth is shown throughout. For example the swimming pool,

expensive clothing and jewelry. On the other hand the music video will not be
conventional. This is due to the music video being related to a serious topic. E.g- Young
girls and body image. This is not stereotypical of a R’n’B music video as they do not
normally relate to serious topics, it is mainly about love and money. This is why our
music video is going to be different to any other R’n’B music video.
