Trained as an architect, Foo Fatt Chuen started Axis Network Design Consultants in 1991 and has led the company to win numerous national and international awards for design excellence. As his career progressed, his roles changed from primarily designing projects to now overseeing employees and ensuring project quality and quotas are met. Two memorable projects for Mr. Foo included the magnificent Palace of Justice in Putrajaya, which had a strict three-year deadline, and Marble 8 steakhouse in Kuala Lumpur, which he designed within a modest budget through creative design solutions.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

Company
“Our first office was
a conference room”
Axis Identity Group started out over a
quarter century ago when three brilliant
minds who think alike decided to band
together and form a company. In the
beginning of the glorious decade,
1990’s, Axis Identity Group was born,
raised and nurtured by these individuals.
Later on, this company would grow to
be one of the most popular companies
in the metropolis that is Kuala Lumpur.
The trio encountered multiple
problems in the beginning and
the most devastating of them
all was their limited modal.
They were held out in a tiny
conference room. This confer-
ence room acted out as their
base of command , their office.
Further down the line, they
moved to a building opposite
Lot10 when their members
have inflated to about 15
employees.
They hatched that decision
as the conference room can
no longer accommodate a
hefty sum of people. As their
members fluctuated to a
size of 30 had working
employees, they moved their headquarters to
WISMA Central, a building that is situated at the
heart of Kuala Lumpur, nearby the Famous Petronas
Twin Towers. Further down the modern era, they
relocated to Selangor Dredging, which is situated
next to a famous local bed boarding place, Maya
Hotel and Public Bank . The company is still hold up
in this building till this day.
ROLE CHANGES
Over the course of his career,
Mr Foo’s role has changed so
much that his roles has rotated
to an almost one hundred and
eighty degrees. However, one
thing is certain , despite the
harsh winds of time, Mr. Foo will
always have one static role, and
that is to deal with clients from
extreme spectrums ranging
from young to old, and polite to
rude. However, most of his
other duties has changed dra-
matically over the ages. For
instance, back in the day, MrFoo
had to do plenty of designing
on his projects whilst now, all he
does is just oversee the prog-
ress of his employees and act
as a supervisor. Apart from
that,Mr. Foo also has to ensure
the quality of his projects. He
requires his projects to be the
very best like no other project
ever was. Not only that, he also
needs to fulfill a certain quota
handed up to him on all of his
projects ensuring their balances.
One of the most important
quota to fulfill is the green
building quota which requires a
building to have a certain per-
centage of greenery for it to be
approved.

MEMORABLEproject
Like many interior designers before and after him, MrFoo has
completed plenty of memorable projects in this career line. Out
of the many , a couple singled out as memorable projects. One
of them is the magnificent Palace of Justice, which acts as a
jewel in the city where our Prime Minister Resides, Putrajaya.
This particular project stands out from the others as it had a
very strict deadline. This grandeur project was estimated to
have a 5 year window but was given a small three years to finish.
This lead everyone on the team contribute their part to the proj-
ect hastily . Furthermore , the Palace of Justice Is the biggest
presentation he had yet, with over an astonishing one thousand
people acting as the audience. He also had to convey a courtesy
presentation to 36 honorable judges. Not only that, Mr Foo had
also presented to the respected Prime Minister himself at that
time, Tun Dr Mahatir Muhammad. Ultimately , MrFoo had a fan-
tastic time working on the project and It will be forever embed-
ded into his deepest memories.
EARLIEST
LATEST
project
project
Back before Mr.Foo became one of
the founding fathers of the Axis Iden-
tity Groups, Mr Foo had a job as an
assistant architect. Like many others
who held that position , he worked on
his very first project helping out a
senior architect. His initial project
which happened to be in the United
Kingdom ( U.K) was a commercial
building. Unlike our beautiful country,
Malaysia, U.K has a different set of
customs. As MrFoo was not a native
citizen of the U.K, they have placed an
extremely strict guideline on the proj-
ect for him to follow. For instance,
one of the very guidelines was to
design the building based on the local
culture whilst maintaining a modern
ambience to it. Furthermore, the build-
ings have to respect the local heritage
which means Mr. Foo couldn’t design a
modern building from the get go. As
the project turned out to be a
success, this helped secure Mr. Foo’s
footing in the construction industry. It
was from that moment that he knew,
that there will be a bright future await-
ing him.
Later on, after Mr. Foo had established
himself as one of the founders of Axis
Identity Group, he begun working on his
own projects. One of the projects that
garnered him fame was the Marble 8 project.
Marble 8 is an extravagant steak house situated
at the beating heart of the living metropolis,
Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. Marble 8
has a stunning of the Petronas Twin Tower main
dining area. On this particular project , Mr. Foo
encountered a slight problem : his given budget. As
Mr. Foo’s client wanted to squeeze the most out of his
incoming profits, he handed Mr. Foo a rather mediocre
budget to work with.
Being the
top, of his line Mr. Foo
only wanted the very best fo his
beloved clients. Hence, Mr. Foo had
concocted a mind-blowing design for
the steak house. As an example, he had used tiles
which imitate wood and placed it on the floor boards
of the restaurant to give off a woody ambience. He
also planted a preserved tree at the epicenter of the
floor board . To liven the environment, Mr. Foo
designed a small section of the steak house to accom-
modate a showroom of sorts, where the chefs would
carry out some of the preparation of the custom-
er’s food before their very eyes . As the quality
of the beef is Marble 8, the steak house took
its name from it. Mr. Foo occasionally visits
this venue till this day .
