Arch. Enrique P. Gozar, PIA, IDA(HK), as Managing Director established
Gozar Planners (HK) Ltd. in Hong Kong in 1987 with a starting studio
staff of 3 growing to a 9 man strong design office. The firm was doing a
multitude of projects ranging from large master planning projecta like the Panyu Master
Plan Development in China and the interior renovation and fit-out works for the "Furama-
Kempinski" Hotel in Central. Gozar Planners also executed various interior projects
like the offices of Thamesway Pacific of London, the Dial Corporation of US A,
the "La Boheme" and "Kublai's" restaurants among others.
The firm branched out to Manila in 1993, establishing Gozar Planners
Philippines Inc. and thereafter has been active in the local scene executing projects for large
developers and banks like Metrobank, Global Bank, PSBank, East West Bank and
major local residential, townhouse and office condominium developers. These are
exemplified by completed projects like the Ocean Tower in Roxas Blvd., the
PSBank Tower in Buendia, the Metrobank Center in Ortigas Ave. and many
renovation projects for these banks. In1996,the firm completed the latest Duty Free -
"Fiesta Shopping Center at the NAIA Airport and was the project design director and
interior architects for the G.T. International Tower in Ayala Ave., a 45 story office
building designed in NY by KPF Architects.
Arch. Gozar established the HK firm originally to provide in-house design
service, to the architectural firm of Architects Hawaii, Far East in HK for it's
architectural and interior design projects all over Asia. This appointment has
brought Mr. Gozar plenty of work experience for large scale and specialized
projects while he was consultant to this firm. He has traveled extensively
in China, The Philippines, Korea, Japan, Okinawa, Taiwan, Singapore and as far
as MauritiusIslnds, near Madagascar south of South Africa, mainly for hotel
projects and large scale master planning jobs. Among the hotels designed and
managed by
Mr. Gozar are; the Furama Hotel in Dalian, China, and the Ramada
4. Renaissance Hotel in Guilin, China, the interior design of the Rainbow
Hotel and the Forum (i.e. Intercontinental) Hotel both in Shenzhen, And the architect-
tural and interior design of the famous Shanghai Swan Hotel.
Aside from the hotel projects designed and administered by Mr. Gozar are
large scale master planning jobs like:the 20 year Master Plan for the Sheraton
Hotel in Seoul, Korea . Another is the proposed Hainan World Trade Center
for the Suzuki Co. of Japan, the 10 year planning for the Kenny Hill Residential
Development in Malaysia, the American Club in Singapore, the Irabu Marina
and Resort Development in Irabu, Japan.
His appointment has also provided him with a wealth of on-hand management experience
in managing these projects from feasibility studies to design development and up the to
project construction stage.
Projects he saw completed whilst in HK are the expansion and renovations works for the
Discovery Bay Golf &Country Club and the Residents Club ,both in Discovery Bay, Lantao
Island, Hong Kong. Also a 33 unit Luxury Village Housing development in Shatin, the
prestigious Prudential Bldg.- a mixed commercial/office building in HK and
various residential, and commercial interiors. Prior to joining Architects Hawaii, Mr. Gozar
has been in the employment of reputable firms like DMJM International, then
the largest US architectural and engineering firm with offices worldwide. He was
assigned to its Tokyo and Manila offices doing specialized and classified military
design projects. Among them the Nuclear Shelters for the US Military Services, the
Mobile Missile Tracking Facility & Stations in various locations in Japan, the
Naval Exchange (now "Duty Free Phils.") in Subic, and the Mac Terminal (Airport)
Extension and the Aerospace Branch in Clark Air Base, Pampanga.
He went to Hong Kong in Dec. 1977 where he was
invited by the architectural firm of Eric Cumine Associates Ltd, by then the largest
practice in where he was was assigned as team leader and design architect for the Marco
Polo Hotel and the Prince Hotel in the "Harbour City" complex in Tsimshatsui. He was
principal graphics designer the whole "Harbour City" development. He also helped in the
the planning for the "Harbour City" Sports Center and a luxury apartment
building in Barker Rd. Hong Kong.After completing three full years, he then joined the offices of Wong Tung
International, aTexas, USA based American- Chinese firm in HK. In this practice he
has been involved mainly in the development of the Discovery Bay project- a
large "resort type" residential project for a planned community of 5,000
families. It has hotel facilities, commercial, institutional, transport and public amenity
development within this enclave. Mr. Gozar's primary involvement was the design and
supervision of the Outer Ring Luxury Houses in Phase1 and the Discovery Bay Golf Club
development; a 24 hour, 27 hole International Class Golf Course designed by Robert Trent
Jones II.
Mr. Gozar started his professional practice in1974 in the Philippines where he was,
an Associate Architect of the architectural firm of E.L. Mariano & Associates. Whilst
there he co-designed the Bank of the Philippine Islands headquarters in Ayala Ave., and
it's 17 branches all over the Philippines, the first Ayala parking building in Ayala
Center, the IRRI Staff Housing and several office and commercial buildings
at various locations in the Philippines and one in Dubai. He was project architect for
