• is a set of programs that coordinates all
the activities among computer hardware
devices.
• It provides a means for users to
communicate with the computer and
other software.
• Examples: Windows, Linux, and Mac

b. Utility Program
Allows a user to perform maintenance-type
tasks usually related to managing a
computer, its devices, or its programs.
Some of it is Antivirus, PC Maintenance,
File Manager, and a Spyware Remover.

Refers to the program created to
accomplish specific tasks for the user
with the purpose of supporting or
improving the users’ work.
It is designed to make users more
productive and/or assist them with
personal tasks.

A. Word Processing Software – Allows users to create and edit a document.
Example: Microsoft Office word, Word Pad, etc.

document and perform calculation.
Example : Microsoft Excel, Open Office Calc,
etc

data.
Example : Microsoft Access, MySQL, Oracle, etc

presentation.

1. Business software is a combination of
different types of software that assists people in
becoming more effective and efficient while
performing their daily business activities.
Business software includes programs such as
word processing, spreadsheet, database,
presentation, note taking, project management
accounting, and enterprise computing.

Software are used by people with specific needs in the field of
engineering, architecture, graphics, web development, and programming.

Software are used mostly by the greater public for managing and
organizing their daily personal activities.

Software is a special type that works with a hardware and transmission
media. This software includes e-mail, file transfer protocol, chat room ,
instant messaging, and blogging.
