  12. 12. Case 3 Question 1 by: Grace DavidVehicles for “transporting”
  13. 13. Case Study Question No. 1 What problems occurred when Wolf Peak upgraded from QuickBooks to a new accounting Software package? How could these problems have been avoided?
  14. 14. Company Name: Wolf Peak International Inc. • Location: Laytoh, Utah • Industry: Consumer Products • Products and Services: Manufacturer and Distributor of Industrial Sports Eyewear • Revenue: US$4 – US$10 million • Founder – Owner: Kurt Daems • Chief Finance Officer (CFO): Ron Swhab
  15. 15. Kurt Daems in using QuickBooks :(start-up) • used to handle ledger chores; • user-friendly that allows him to drill down to view transaction details; and • combine data in a variety of ways to create desired reports.Ron Schwab in using QuickBooks:(implementation period) • The company has paid a lot for this system but nobody knew how to go in and extract financial or operational data used; • Developing reusable reports was difficult, time consuming and expensive; • The company has to pay financial consultants to develop reports for specific needs; and • Company’s prior year history could not be converted into the new accounting system/package.
  16. 16. The Journey TEAM – the local SAP services partner.SAP Business One – an integrated business management applicationdesigned specifically for small and medium size businesses like Wolf PeakThis application automates critical operations including sales, finance, purchasing, inventory, andmanufacturing and delivers an accurate, up-to-the minute view of the business. The benefits of SAP Business One far outweighed the costs andtime already invested in that software system. With Business one they can perform task thatprevious accounting cannot. Wolf Peak’s management has also begun using the customerrelationship management (CRM) functionality within Business One to assist with its Collection ofreceivables.Implementation completed in seven (7) weeks during the busiest periodof the year, without disruption of business operations.
  17. 17. The following should have been done before choosing and using new software: They could have decided to choose the software based on these criteria: Ease of Implementation, Price of Software, Ease of Use, Software’s ability to fit the business, Functionality of software, Level of support provided by the provider, Quality of documentation and Developers track record of performance. There should have a Finance/Focal Person or Expert reviewing, who is knowledgeable in choosing the new software.
  18. 18. Case 3 Question 2 by: Pamela PadillaVehicles for “transporting”
  19. 19.  Question 2: Why did SAP’s Business One prove to be a better choice for WolfPeak’s management than the new accounting software? Give several examples to illustrate your answer
  20. 20. SAP’s Business One has the capabilities to match the needs of WolfPeak.. Enables ad-hoc reporting/report generation Intuitive user-interface and ease of use—managers need not be an expert to use the tool for their customized needs Provides transparent live data—ability to capture updated data and drill down to the details Enables them to expand and integrate other systems in the company, with the availability of compatible suites of software..at a reasonable cost with minimal disruption to the business. Actual implementation was not as disruptive to business operations as the previous software—it took just 7 weeks and met the committed timeline Existing data was converted to the new system—therefore providing continuity to business operations JourneyTEAM provided adequate training and support to the users JourneyTEAM provided reasonable price quotes for an SME
  21. 21. Case 3 Question 3 by: Noel PaningbatanVehicles for “transporting”
  22. 22.  Question 3: Should more SMEs use an integrated business software suite like SAP Business One instead of specialized accounting and other business software packages? Why or why not?
  23. 23. Yes, SME’s should take advantage of such a program but they should still take into consideration if the program matches the requirements that they need in order to prevent further mistakes and costs. The program can give management timely reports that can help them make decisions faster . The software suites handles multiple facets of the business process, not just one aspect. The program is relatively affordable for the the SME. It is also very easy to use and implement. Operations would not be dirupted that much when rolling out this program. This will help the company focus on growth and expansion rather than worrying about report generation and etc.
