Introduction
I have recently completed an HND in Electrical Engineering with an A grade and after being out of the
education system for several years, I can say that I am self-motivated, driven person who can adapt
well to many different situations. I am currently looking for a new role to allow me to utilise my newly
earned HND and am very interested in being involved in the design side of Electrical Engineering as I
am eager to learn as much as I possibly can in this field. I am an individual who takes great pride in
their work and always tries as hard as I can too make sure that the quality of my work is to the
highest standard possible. I also have excellent communication and problem solving skills with a good
IT understanding and am comfortable with all Microsoft office programmes. I enjoy working as part
of a dedicated team and I am looking to join a company that rewards hard work, dedication and can
help me develop my knowledge as much as possible.
Current Employment
After finishing college I decided that I needed to gain some on-site experience and through contacts
got a two week work experience place, in August, with SES Engineering Services working on their
new Macallan Distillery project. This was a great experience as the project is massive and has many
industry leading contractors all working to an extremely high standard. This gave me a great insight
into how projects are managed and all the different aspects that need to be considered in the
construction industry.
After the two weeks were finished I was offered a role helping out with the administrative duties as
the team needed help and I had shown enough skill that they felt I had something to offer in this
aspect. I have been working with them since.
In this role I have been helping with a great number of different tasks. Such roles include; drawing
control, where I was in charge of printing and storing all drawings and making sure our own drawing
register was up to date with the most recent revisions.
I spent a lot of time setting up and helping to fill in a Commissioning dossier, where I had to get all
the commissioning method statements and risk assessments from all the sub-contractors that SES
use for the different works needing done for the project. This entailed contacting the contractors and
ensuring that the information that was sent was relevant and properly filed both with hard and soft
copies.
Another task that I was put in charge of was issuing Request for Actions, which are any jobs needing
completed by the main contractor as requested by any member of the SES team, I also would check
around site to see if these tasks were being completed.
I helped out with the fortnightly progress report, making sure that all relevant documents were up to
date and in place and showing where progress was made by photographs taken round the site.
The project had many variances between the tendered and construction stages and I helped the
team by marking these down in spreadsheets I made up myself, which were sent to the Quantity
Surveyor to be checked and put in the system.
I have gained a lot of knowledge from this project and have enjoyed doing something that definitely
took me out of my comfort zone.
