4. History of the Establishment of Hyde Park
-Founded in 1853
-Popular because it had a train station that provided daily trips to downtown Chicago
-Creation of the University of Chicago and the World’s Columbian Exposition of 1893
greatly increased population in late 1800s
-Led to construction of homes, commercial buildings, and the South Side Elevated
Line
-Quickly became an ethnically diverse community

18. Group Reflections
Great way to spend a sunny Saturday actively learning about another neighborhood
in this great city.
Definitely worth visiting the attractions.
It was cool to visit Obama’s neighborhood.
Fun to explore with a group of great people.
Interesting to see a historical side of south Chicago through Hyde Park.
