Humic acid is formed by microbial degradation of dead biological substances. It can be extracted from soil or water. Humic acid comes in different forms depending on its source but has similar performance. Humic acid is soluble in alkali solutions but not water or acids, and is commonly sold as a black powder or granules. It contains over 80% organic matter and has various functions including improving soil structure and fertility, regulating soil pH, fostering microbial growth, stimulating seed germination and plant growth, enhancing nutrient uptake, increasing yields, and improving product quality.
