NEWS PAPER ARTICLE US Secretary of the State Hillary Clinton is presenting steps taken by the US state of removing Armenia authorities from a list of countries which are believed to not be doing enough to combat human trafficking. Armenia had been on the “watch list” for years in its annual report on cross-border transport illegal exploitation of human beings around the world. The Armenians has scrambled to get the country out of the blacklist with a range of measures against illegal practice for sexual exploitation. They approved their second anti-trafficking program in the late 2007. They are also promoting tough punishments for human trafficking and cracked down on local prostitution rings. Although all of those efforts the government does not fully comply with the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking, however its making significant efforts to do so. Internationally, the U.S. has initiated many anti-trafficking and development programs to assist countries to combat this ever-growing phenomenon. Mandated by the TVPA in 2000, the Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking was created in the State Department (G/TIP Office). Nationally, the US government is committed to prosecuting traffickers and assisting persons who have been identified as victims of trafficking. In November 2003, the US Congress reauthorized the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000.The Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2003 provides resources and initiatives to assist the 18,000 to 20,000 victims of human trafficking who are trafficked into the United States every year. The Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2005 was signed into law on January 2006.
