It explores hands-on & playfully how a privacy-friendly service & system can be designed & developed, according to 8 Privacy Design Strategies & Tactics (Hoepman, 2018). For homework, we asked students to explore privacypatterns.org as well, in order to see if students were able to work from a strategic perspective towards an implementation plan. Another goal of this workshop is to explore if this theoretical foundation can become a potential language for both Designers & Developers, when they are creating privacy-friendly services & systems together.
The explosion of big data and digital information has transpired with little attention to ethical considerations of consent, privacy, and confidentiality. In our 00’s strive for sharing & connecting, we seem to have lost the potential quality of the private sphere, resulting in an ambiguous unlimited spreading of personal data to both governmental and commercial parties. At this moment we have no notion of the unintended consequences, algorithmic bias, nor do we know much about the troubling power of persuasive technology. Although GDPR has resulted in awareness and strategic implementation of privacy-sensitive information, we still need to look for methods & tools to implement privacy into our daily designer-development workflows, so that we can guide ourselves towards the creation of privacy-friendly systems that maintain the basic values of democracy.
Social Applications for Transportation
Social apps can help connect residents with transportation agencies to improve sustainable transportation. Such apps start simply by sharing information but can evolve to more advanced functions like crowd-sourced reporting, discussion, and collaborative action. Effective apps provide two-way communication between users and agencies and include back-end analytics to inform decision-making.

Mobile platforms are transforming museums from places visitors physically visit to distributed networks engaged with worldwide. Half of platforms museums use to reach audiences are now mobile. Museums should develop mobile content and experiences to foster conversation over audio tours. While costly to develop, mobile can recruit global collaborators if used as "radical social media" aligned with institutional missions of increasing and diffusing knowledge. Mobile metrics include accessibility, quality, relevance and sustainability over profitability.

Introduction of Cybersecurity with OSS at Code Europe 2024
I develop the Ruby programming language, RubyGems, and Bundler, which are package managers for Ruby. Today, I will introduce how to enhance the security of your application using open-source software (OSS) examples from Ruby and RubyGems.
The first topic is CVE (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures). I have published CVEs many times. But what exactly is a CVE? I'll provide a basic understanding of CVEs and explain how to detect and handle vulnerabilities in OSS.
Next, let's discuss package managers. Package managers play a critical role in the OSS ecosystem. I'll explain how to manage library dependencies in your application.
I'll share insights into how the Ruby and RubyGems core team works to keep our ecosystem safe. By the end of this talk, you'll have a better understanding of how to safeguard your code.
zkStudyClub - LatticeFold: A Lattice-based Folding Scheme and its Application...
Folding is a recent technique for building efficient recursive SNARKs. Several elegant folding protocols have been proposed, such as Nova, Supernova, Hypernova, Protostar, and others. However, all of them rely on an additively homomorphic commitment scheme based on discrete log, and are therefore not post-quantum secure. In this work we present LatticeFold, the first lattice-based folding protocol based on the Module SIS problem. This folding protocol naturally leads to an efficient recursive lattice-based SNARK and an efficient PCD scheme. LatticeFold supports folding low-degree relations, such as R1CS, as well as high-degree relations, such as CCS. The key challenge is to construct a secure folding protocol that works with the Ajtai commitment scheme. The difficulty, is ensuring that extracted witnesses are low norm through many rounds of folding. We present a novel technique using the sumcheck protocol to ensure that extracted witnesses are always low norm no matter how many rounds of folding are used. Our evaluation of the final proof system suggests that it is as performant as Hypernova, while providing post-quantum security.

Apps Break Data
How information systems are built or acquired puts information, which is what they should be about, in a secondary place. Our language adapted accordingly, and we no longer talk about information systems but applications. Applications evolved in a way to break data into diverse fragments, tightly coupled with applications and expensive to integrate. The result is technical debt, which is re-paid by taking even bigger "loans", resulting in an ever-increasing technical debt. Software engineering and procurement practices work in sync with market forces to maintain this trend. This talk demonstrates how natural this situation is. The question is: can something be done to reverse the trend?
