What is Evernote?

Evernote is a suite of software and
services designed for…

A full webpage or webpage excerpt

A photograph

a voice memo

Or a handwritten “ink” note

Organize, remember and store all
your stuff in one place

And access it from any of your
devices

Let’s go ahead and see what
Evernote can do

Go to your browser and type in
www.evernote.com

This page will display on your screen

Let’s sign up first

This page should display

Let’s use the free version for this
tutorial

This form will appear

Type in your email

And your password

Then click register

Congratulations! You have now
created your Evernote account

Now let’s get Evernote installed in
your computer

For this tutorial, we’ll download the
Windows version

Go back to www.evernote.com

Scroll down

Then click Download Evernote

Your download should start
immediately

The website will automatically
detect your computer

And provide you with the correct
download option

When your download is complete

Run the installer

Click on run when prompted to

Complete the installation

Tick the box to accept the License
Agreement

Then click Install

Wait until the installation setup is
complete

Click on Finish to exit the Setup
Wizard

Congratulations! You have now
installed Evernote

Now let’s login and get started

Since we already have an account
click on:

Type in your email/username

And password

Then click on Sign In

A welcome note should display on
your screen

Click on Get Started

You will be shown with this display

Let’s try and create our first note

Click on Create a note

This should show up on your screen

Click on New Note

You will have this

Let’s take time to review your
Evernote Home Screen

This area is your note editor

Sidebar – shows the content of your
Evernote

Note List – displays all your notes

Search Bar – look up notes,
keywords, tags, location and more

Activity Stream Button – shows your
activity details

Sync Button – used to manually sync

Account Info Button – add Evernote
account or Sign Out

Type in your first note

Type in the Note Title here

Type in the body of your Note here

You can also create an audio or
video note

To create an audio note, click on
New Note dropdown

Your note options will appear

Select New Audio Note

This is what should display on your
note editor

Type in your note title

Click record to create your audio
note

Once you’re done, click Save

To play your audio note, click on the
play button

To create a video note, click on New
Note dropdown

Select New Webcam Note

You need to have your webcam
connected to do this

Your webcam should start up

Click on Take Snapshot

Your snapshot should display

You can retake your snapshot

Or save to Evernote

You can annotate your images using
texts, arrows or shapes

Your snapshot will be opened in a
window like Paint

The icons on the left let you edit
your image

For further emphasis on your notes

Add arrows

Add text

Add shapes

Draw on your image

Pixelate your image

Add stamps to your image

And crop your image

To create an ink note, click on New
Note dropdown

Select New Ink Note

Your Note Editor should look like
this

You can write your note as if you
were doodling

You can also take a screenshot with
Evernote

Click on New Note dropdown

Select New Screenshot

A screenshot or clip of your screen
will be displayed

The clip will be displayed in a Paint
like window

Remember when we annotated the
webcam note earlier?

Works exactly the same! 

Your screenshot note is done!

Now that we have created your
notes, let’s organize!

Organize your notes around projects
or interests in your Notebook

To create your Notebook, click File

Select New Notebook

This box will pop up

There are 2 types of Notebook

Synchronized Notebook – shared
notebook

Local Notebook – stored only on your
hard drive

For this tutorial, let’s create a
synchronized notebook

Type in your notebook’s name

Tick the box, to make it your
default notebook

Then click OK

Your Notebook should now be saved

You can move files by dragging it to
your Notebook

Or alternatively you can click Note

Select Move

Then select the Notebook you want
to move it to

Evernote lets you share your
notebook

Keep projects, resources and ideas
in one shared place

So you and your team can be more
productive

On Evernote, select Notebook

Your Notebooks should display

Select the Notebook you wish to
share

These icons will show beside your
folder’s name

Click on this icon to share your
folder

This box will display

You can share it with individuals

Or create a public link

If you share with individuals, this
box will show up

Enter the email addresses of your
collaborators

You can control their access by
clicking on the dropdown

View notes

View notes and activity

Modify notes

Modify and invite others

Tick the box to allow notebook
preview without requiring login

You can also add a message if you
want to

Click on Share once you’re done

Click on Done once you’re finished

If you want to create a public link,
click

Your link should display

You can share this link via e-mail

Or your social media sites

Click on Done once you’re finished

We did say earlier that we can save
a webpage

Or a webpage excerpt

To do that, we need to add Evernote
Web Clipper

Click on download

Your option will vary depending on
your browser

For this tutorial, let’s download web
clipper for chrome

This pop up will appear

Click on Add

The add on will automatically be
added to your browser

To save a webpage, click on the
Evernote icon

This window should display

Choose which saving type you prefer

Click on save, to save it in Evernote

You can also add annotations

And share the webpage or excerpt

Choose how you want to share it

Remember Batman’s utility belt?

Evernote works similarly like that

Here are some add ons that might
be helpful

Evernote Clearly – reformats
webpages and removes ads

Evernote Hello – a networking tool
that helps you remember people

Penultimate – write notes, mark up
images, save to your notebook

RightSignature – turns notes and
attachments into PDF to be signed

Peek – make your notes into
flashcards for study material

Evernote Skitch – draw attention by
using annotation, shapes and sketches
