The PSAT/NMSQT exam is a preparatory exam for the SAT that allows students to gauge their SAT readiness, identify strengths and weaknesses, and qualify for National Merit Scholarships. Taking the PSAT in either sophomore or junior year makes students eligible for National Merit recognition and scholarships. The exam evaluates skills in reading, writing, and math through multiple choice and student-produced response questions.

- 3. ReadiStep Test Scores Each ReadiStep score – Critical Reading, Mathematics, and Writing Skills – is based on a scale of 2 to 8.
- 4. Score Range The score range shows how much scores might vary if you were to take the ReadiStep assessment repeatedly without learning additional skills.
- 5. National Percentile This compares your performance with those of other 8th graders nationwide. This number shows how many students scored the same as or below your score.
- 6. Local Percentile This compares your performance with those of other 8th graders in the district or state. This number shows how many students scored the same as or below your score.
- 7. Predicted PSAT/NMSQT Range Shows the possible score ranges a student will receive if they take the PSAT/NMSQT in the 10th grade.

- This slide shows the number of items and time allotted to each test section. You will need to plan a block of time including break times. This is a quick assessment, which can be given all at once in 120 minutes or over the course of three class periods in 40 minutes each. Students are allowed to use a calculator for half of the math items.
