First Step Of Presentation skills
BY:
M. Atif Nawaz
How to introduce yourself
 Sum up your life time experience, talent and skills in a paragraph, or
two.
 Just think about it like you are introducing yourself to a stranger.
 What do they need to know?
 If a stranger wants to know about you or if we want to know about a
stranger only one Question comes in our mind first ,
 Who are you?
 What is your background ?
 What are your Achievements?
 What challenges have you faced?
 In common situation, we just show our names to each other. But if a
interviewer is caries to know about yourself in detail than we describe
our personality in detail.
 In an official meeting the interviewer always asked the candidate to
introduce yourself.
Dress Appropriately
 Appearance play an important role when meeting
some one new. The first impression you make on a
potential employer is important.
 When you meet a potential employer for the first time,
they immediately make an opinion about you based on
what you are wearing and how you carry yourself
 Choosing what to wear depend on what kind of
interview it is and what it is for.
 One can wear only certain kind of clothes at certain
place that depends on occasion
 While going to school one can not wear colorful funky
clothes so it is important to follow the uniform rule .
 Same as in office it is very important to wear formal
clothes as informal clothes do not make you presentable.
 Different offices have different dress codes
For Example:
A financial consultant interview will likely require more
formal dress than that of colorful funky clothes
Here are some tips:
 Dress is a manner that is professionally appropriate to
the position for which you are applying.
 Your suit should be comfortable and fit you well so that
you look & act your best.
 Avoid loud colors.
 Clothing should be neat , clean and pressed.
 Try and avoid distracting visual like heavy jewelry.
Body Language
Make good impression in an interview:
 At time of introduction:
 At first few seconds of your meeting with the interviewer play a crucial
role in impressing him/her. How to walk, stand, sit and move hand and
head speak the thousand words about you.
 Walk straight and keep shoulders pulled back and neck elongate.
Maintain the eye contact with the people in the room.
 Your posture reflect your confidence level and personality.
o When You offer a handshake:
 The first thing to do when entering the interview room is greeting and
offering a handshake.
 Right way to do this is offering your right hand and giving a firm
handshake.
o When you sit:
o Sitting firmly, your back straight show confidence and makes your look
a bit to be relaxed. Keep your posture straight with hands placed either
on the table or on your lab, while foot kept firmly on the ground .
When you make an eye contact
 Right way is to address the person who raised a
question , and then maintain eye contact with other
interviewers or for few seconds before addressing first
interviewer again. This is the best way to show that you
are confident and attentive
During interview process
o Use hand gestures:
 Keep hand hidden under the table indicates nervousness
while Excessive hand movement is also not appreciated .
 Best way to play safe with your hands is to keep them on
your lap when not using and moving them slightly in a
natural way in speaking
Don’t forget smile
 A smile can say it all similarly conveys that you are
relaxed , friendly and confident. It help you to stay
calm & answer the question.
At The Time of Departure
 At the end of the interview, say “Thank you” and leave
your seat gently.
 Shake hand with interviewer or keep pleasant smile
on your face.
 Your body language will communicate through out the
interview process.
