3. Temporary Visitor for Business or Pleasure
A B-1/B-2 visa is commonly known as a tourist
visa, since it the type of nonimmigrant visa used for
tourism. The majority of visa applicants at U.S.
Embassy Bogota apply for this visa. It is for people
who wish to visit the United States temporarily for
business or pleasure.
4. Some of the activities permissible on a B-1/B-
2 visa are:
Going on vacation
Visiting family members or friends
Attending business meetings
Participating in work-related training
Receiving medical treatment

5. Required Documents
The documents required for this type of
request are the following:
valid Passport
confirmation sheet of the Form DS-160
a photo (see requirements for the TIPS
for the DS-160)
Form I-20, Certificate of Eligibility of the
status of the Student
Receipt of payment of the SEVIS

8. Please complete the application
form DS-160 Nonimmigrant Visa.
This form is available
online in English with
their respective
translation into
Spanish. Once
endorsed print the
"confirmation sheet"
with the bar code.

9. Cancel the rights of visa application and
attend the appointment (if needed).

service of Visa
(CSC), create an
account and follow
the instructions. Not
all people require
interview, the system
will determine if you
require an interview
or not (check the
section of exemption
of interview).
10. STEP 6
Introduce yourself
in the Visa Unit of
the United States
Embassy in Bogota
in the date and
time of your
appointment.
11. The Interview
The personal
interview with a
consular officer and
the information
provided in writing
on the form DS-160
are critical elements
in the process of
visa. Due to the high

applying for the visa
on a daily basis, the
interviews are
generally short.
12. After the interview

approved
