Plagiarism : An Ethical Issue
"According to the Merriam–Webster online dictionary, to "plagiarize" means to steal and pass of
(the ideas or words of another as one's own..." ("What Is Plagiarism?). When one plagiarizes, they
use someone else's work and present it as their own ("What Is Plagiarism?"). It's a very serious
offense and plagiarizing can result in serious academic offenses. Plagiarizing is easy to prevent if
you familiarize yourself with how to cite properly. Plagiarizing is a very ethical issue for the fact that
your copying someone's work and not giving them the credit for it. According to Krishnamoorthy,

According to plagioarism.org, "...plagiarism is an act of fraud. It involves both stealing someone
else's work and lying about it afterward" ("What Is Plagiarism"). The website also gives a definition
from the Merriam–Webster Online dictionary, which states that plagiarism means "to steal and pass
off (the ideas or words of another as one's own, to use (another's production) without crediting the
source, to commit literary theft, [and] to present as new and original an idea or product derived
from an existing source" ("What Is Plagiarism?"). Stealing words and ideas is plagiarism and are
protected by copyright laws as long as they are recorded in some way ("What Is Plagiarism?"). The
following examples presented by the website are considered plagiarism:
Turning in someone else's work as your own, copying words or ideas from someone else without
giving credit, failing to put a quotation in quotation marks, giving incorrect information about the
source of a quotation, changing words but copying the sentence structure of a source without giving
credit, copying so many words or ideas from a source that it makes up the majority of your work,
whether you give credit or not... ("What Is Plagiarism?").
The website also states that images, videos, and music can be plagiarized ("What Is Plagiarism"?).

Intro Plagiarism definition Differences from personal/ outside sources Documentation (MLA
/APA) Conclusion What is Plagiarism? One of the biggest issues that will come up when
students write papers, is plagiarism. It is getting harder for students to avoid plagiarism. When a
student plagiarizes, it can greatly affect them in a number of ways. The intention of this paper is
to discuss what plagiarism is, how to give the proper documentation, and what to use when citing
a source. Plagiarism is defined as taking somebody's work and using it as your own work ("What is
Plagiarism"). A variety of things can be plagiarized; they can range from papers all the way to
people's ideas. The most common thing that is plagiarized, would be...show more content...
Jim Carnett has the first–hand experience with this happening, "I lifted a portion of one of my
columns and inserted it in the Daily Pilot piece without attribution." The best way to avoid
having personal ideas confused with outside sources is to look and see if there has been any form
of documentation of the idea. If there is documentation of said idea out there, then that would
count as an outside source and you need to provide documentation for it. There can be
coincidences, however, where two different parties have the same idea and you can't tell whether
or not it is a case of plagiarism. This is the case between the authors of Bucky's 9th and The Art of
Fielding. The two books share a very similar plot, that 3rd parties can't tell whether or not it is
plagiarism. The easiest way to solve this issue would be by having both authors provide the
manuscripts for their respective books of when they started writing them (Fallon). Perhaps one of
the simplest ways to avoid plagiarism is to provide documentation of where you got your
information from. In an article in The Washington Post, Sandra Miller wrote about how she saw her
son skimming websites and not providing a source as to where he got his information. If her son
was to write the paper without giving any form of documentation, that would count as plagiarism. A
piece of advice that Miller wrote was, "When

Reflection on Week 21 (How to deal with plagiarism)
Up to this moment I have learned a lot about plagiarism. Using internet and google is so is part of
our daily lives that obtaining relevant information is as easy as ABC. As the results of eases of
access to information student do not think about plagiarism as a serious offence. This remind me of
artist campaign which was held in South Africa, complaining about people copying their video or
DVD illegally, this is another form of plagiarism. In order for plagiarism to stop, educating students
about referencing and academic writing from primary level to tertiary education level is very
important. Any plagiarism education training must include education about the offence itself and
what it means to steal in that way. If the educational institution take plagiarism so seriously and
provide compulsory workshop about the type of plagiarism, about how to prevent misconduct and
what plagiarism actually mean. From reading Blog and fellow student discussions and doing
different searches about plagiarism I find different ways to deal with plagiarism and improve my
writing skill.
When marking the Essay report, I got the opportunity to use the Plagiarism checker (Papperater), is
the software that helps students and teachers to spot similarity percentage, get rid of it and help
them to submit high quality Essay or articles. I managed to upload all the Essay to the system and
write the similarity report down. Out of eight Essay that I have

Essay on The Internet and Plagiarism
The Internet and Plagiarism
The World Wide Web is larger than any one person can imagine. There are an infinite amount of
links to libraries and other sources of information. There are numerous search engines, such as
Yahoo, which make researching really easy. We can find anything that we want on line, because
there are no boundaries to our explorations, and there are no laws to stop us. You can find anything
from socks to guns. People can even find completed research papers online; they simply copy and
paste it to a new document, make a few adjustments, and it is ready to turn in. Un–honest people do
this every day, and it has become a common problem among high schools and colleges. This is a
serious problem known as...show more content...
She was very competitive, very intelligent, and she wanted to be the best. So, it was a shock to the
whole school when she was expelled for plagiarizing a published poem. There are severe
punishments for plagiarizing! Lake Superior State University's possible consequences for
plagiarism are as follows: "a grade of "F" for that assignment, a forced withdrawal from the course,
a course grade of "F", academic probation or suspension, and expulsion from the university.2" Also,
that incident will go into your academic records. You can plagiarize just about anything you want;
from music to software, to bootleg DVDs to research papers. All of which is right at our fingertips.
It was surveyed that at least half of college students admitted to cheating at least once in their
lifetime (u–wire.com). This is a completely inappropriate way of getting things done. I would not
recommend anybody to plagiarize because it is immoral, and embarrassing if caught. Besides,
would you want someone to copy something you worked hard on, and not receive credit for doing it?
To be frank, the Internet plays a negative role in plagiarism. The general public has access to
millions of legal, and illegal resources at their fingertips. All of this information can be plagiarized
easily. All you have to do is highlight a paragraph, copy it, go to a new document and paste it. For
example, this paragraph was copied from

Plagiarism Is Bad
Plagiarism is when someone takes words or ideas from someone or something and uses them as
their own without giving credit. Someone's original ideas are intellectual property and are
protected by copyright laws in the USA. Plagiarism is not just copying words or sentences, you
can also plagiarize music. For example, if you were to do a cover to a copyrighted song that
would be plagiarism. Also copying pictures from the internet, even Google, can count as plagiarism
if you do not cite or give credit to the original author properly. This is wrong because it is a form of
theft. Plagiarism is just like someone taking steroids. You took the steroids but it was not really you

Research Paper On Plagiarism
Introduction: Plagiarism is common phenomenon of academic cheating among students.
In recent years, plagiarism has been repeated. Plagiarism is becoming more and more serious.
Whether in life or in school. The students, the teachers, and the creators have had a great deal of
trouble. The British Internet papers trading volume of more than 200 million pounds. Students can
spend 150 or more on "customized" papers, such as "guaranteed," "good reviews", "novel, unique,
original, reliable" and so on. So British institutions would have to check the students' papers and
books, materials or other paper anti plagiarism software, once reached more than a definition of

On the students' learning and teachers' self examination ethos of knowledge system, ideological
quality, occupation morals, attitude and professionalism plays a subtle role. If teacher is honest and
never do the plagiarism, students will study from their teacher, then the student will not cheating and

working, students will not pay attention on honesty, students will doing the plagiarism, then it will
influence school's study and teaching style. And it will tent to a bad influence and get a bad result.

Shakespeare and Plagiarism Essay
Shakespeare and Plagiarism William Shakespeare is one of the world's greatest playwrights;
however, some say that he does not fully deserve the credit for his work because he plagiarized
the work of others. Shakespeare, who was born in Stratford upon Avon in 1564, is also known as
the "Bard" and has written countless plays and poems which have given rise to several novels and
movie plots (Chandy). It is said that he found most of his inspiration from nature, as he mentions
birds in his works more than any other author (Mabillard). There is not enough evidence to prove
that Shakespeare did not plagiarize, nor is there enough to prove that he did. However, from what is
known, he did nothing that could get him the knowledge needed to be...show more content...
Some people still like to argue the fact that Shakespeare was not wealthy had a lack of education
and would have had a difficult time writing such elaborate works without help (wheeler). There are
several people who are believed to be the "real William Shakespeare" including Sir Francis Bacon,
the Earl of Oxford, the Earl of Essex, Christopher Marlowe and Queen Elizabeth I herself
(Mabillard). This is mainly due to the fact that during the time of Shakespeare these were highly
educated and popular people. Also, there are some theories which state that Shakespeare is really just
an out–of–town actor who took the credit for countless works done by other authors and
playwrights (did Shakespeare actually write all his plays), and there is a record of him acting in
front of Queen Elizabeth in 1594 (Chandy). The main reason that these people believed to be the
"real" Shakespeare, is Shakespeare lacks the background, education, and breeding in order to write
such great plays and poems. William Shakespeare could possibly just be a political cover–up for a
politician or a nobleman. "A nobleman could have written the plays but the plays were meant to be
read as political commentary, with each character corresponding on a one–to–one basis with real
political figures"

Plagiarized Research Paper
Plagiarizing U.S. Senator Journal Response In an article later updated, it is reported that a little
girl wrote a paper for her 6th grade science class about her findings about IndoPacific lionfish. She
undoubtedly plagiarized the whole paper telling everyone she found the species and made the
discovery but if you go farther back in science papers and findings you will see that in 2011 Zac
Jud had reported these findings and instantly was given credit. Zac did not want to speak up
because he knew that instantly people would think he was trying to take the findings from this
little girl. Later it was seen that a Senator had plagiarized a paper and excuses were being made for
his actions. "She's such a good girl, She's never done this. Can't

Direct Plagiarism
Whether you are writing an article to be published on a company website or you are a student
going to hand in a paper, there are several things you should think about before you submit your
writing. While direct plagiarism, stealing the words or work of others without citing them, can be
easily avoided, it is the accidental form of plagiarism that causes the most problems. This involves
using writing without citing properly or giving credit to the original author. If you follow these
basic steps, then you will be able to avoid plagiarism in all of your future writing and all of the

The Effects Of Plagiarism
Plagiarism hinders intellectual advancement. The problems of plagiarism have been discussed
for hundreds of years. With technologies, plagiarism becomes a fairly common practice in recent
years. Plagiarism is actually recognized as a dishonest act from the 18th century when the
original literature takes on more value within society. Readers want to read new creations of
ideas and words from writers instead of seeing them polish the writings that have already been
emitted. Writers are able at this moment to earn money with their works and they are entitled to
ask for a fine to the one who steals their writings ("Plagiarism: is plagiarism a serious offense"). This
problem can be seen both on a legal and pedagogical level. The pedagogical...show more content...
Often the mixing of ideas leads to total confusion. A third way of practicing plagiarism is, to
paraphrase. You probably wonder how this can be considered as a plagiarism if the words of the
author have not been used. It is true that the writing has been modified by the use of different
words, but the idea does not come from own self. If the source is not mentioned in this case this
method is part of the plagiarism ("Plagiarism and integrity in research"). In student life, other
types of plagiarism involve using the help of a third person for the writing of an assignment that
should be personal by using paid sites or working in a team or even distorting or by inventing the
reference list. Various reasons for plagiarism exist, whereby involuntary plagiarism may be
attributed to the incomprehension of the rules of citations or to ignorance of what is plagiarism and
the consequences thereof. In literature, studies have shown that the factors favoring plagiarism are
poor in ethics and especially didactics and knowledge attribute for scientific writing. "Writers may
use the original text because they lack confidence to express their views and opinions in English, or
because they doubt their ability to convey the real essence of original publication" ("The
confounding factors leading to plagiarism in academic writing and some suggested remedies: A
systematic review"). Other reasons facilitating plagiarism is that information is very accessible on
the internet allowing

Why Plagiarism Is Wrong
At the Academy of our Lady, plagiarism is considered a disrespectful act of stealing someone else's
work for your own benefit. Students often plagiarize by copying someone's homework, looking off
another's test, or making someone do all the work in a group assignment. Sister Michelle states, "A
student went into a teacher's room and took a picture of the test. The student compounded the bad
choices by putting the picture of the test in a group text" (Davis). When caught for plagiarism, as
those students were, punishment includes getting a zero, calling parents, or getting parents involved
depending on how serious the plagiarism is (Davis). No matter the reason, plagiarism is wrong and
teachers at the academy will find out and give you the discipline...show more content...
For instance, Xavier is subscribed to a service that checks if your paper is plagiarized and states
that, "Students should only submit a specific paper to Turntin once, or else they will appear to be
plagiarizing themselves" (Xavier's Policy). Xavier and Loyola both have academic honesty policies
that state the same message. Xavier's academic honesty policy states, "The direct and unattributed
use of another's efforts is prohibited as is the use of any work untruthfully submitted as one's own"
(Xavier's Policy). When a student is caught for plagiarism, they go through a certain process that lets
them know plagiarism is not a joke. Loyola goes through a process that includes inspection of work,
receiving papers stating that you conducted plagiarism, and meeting with the instructor of the Honor
code (Academic Honesty). Both colleges have similar consequences for plagiarism that are more
extreme than a high school punishment. Loyola's punishment includes a permanent failing grade,
letter of censure, academic suspension, dismissal from university, and records of violations
(Academic Honesty). When you plagiarize, no one is at fault but yourself because everyone has a
conscience that lets us distinguish between right and

One of the biggest issues that will come up when students write papers, is plagiarism. It is getting harder for students to avoid plagiarism. When a student plagiarizes, it can greatly affect them in a number of ways. The intention of this paper is to discuss what plagiarism is, how to give the proper documentation, and what to use when citing a source. Jim Carnett has the first–hand experience with this happening, "I lifted a portion of one of my columns and inserted it in the Daily Pilot piece without attribution." The best way to avoid having personal ideas confused with outside sources is to look and see if there has been any form of documentation of the idea. If there is documentation of said idea out there, then that would count as an outside source and you need to provide documentation for it. There can be coincidences, however, where two different parties have the same idea and you can't tell whether or not it is a case of plagiarism. This is the case between the authors of Bucky's 9th and The Art of Fielding. The two books share a very similar plot, that 3rd parties can't tell whether or not it is plagiarism. The easiest way to solve this issue would be by having both authors provide the manuscripts for their respective books of when they started writing them (Fallon). Perhaps one of the simplest ways to avoid plagiarism is to provide documentation of where you got your information from. In an article in The Washington Post, Sandra Miller wrote about how she saw her son skimming websites and not providing a source as to where he got his information. If her son was to write the paper without giving any form of documentation, that would count as plagiarism. A piece of advice that Miller wrote was, "When Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The general public has access to millions of legal, and illegal resources at their fingertips. All of this information can be plagiarized easily. • 8. Shakespeare and Plagiarism Essay Shakespeare and Plagiarism William Shakespeare is one of the world's greatest playwrights; however, some say that he does not fully deserve the credit for his work because he plagiarized the work of others. Shakespeare, who was born in Stratford upon Avon in 1564, is also known as the "Bard" and has written countless plays and poems which have given rise to several novels and movie plots (Chandy). It is said that he found most of his inspiration from nature, as he mentions birds in his works more than any other author (Mabillard). There is not enough evidence to prove that Shakespeare did not plagiarize, nor is there enough to prove that he did. However, from what is known, he did nothing that could get him the knowledge needed to be...show more content... Some people still like to argue the fact that Shakespeare was not wealthy had a lack of education and would have had a difficult time writing such elaborate works without help (wheeler). There are several people who are believed to be the "real William Shakespeare" including Sir Francis Bacon, the Earl of Oxford, the Earl of Essex, Christopher Marlowe and Queen Elizabeth I herself (Mabillard). This is mainly due to the fact that during the time of Shakespeare these were highly educated and popular people. Also, there are some theories which state that Shakespeare is really just an out–of–town actor who took the credit for countless works done by other authors and playwrights (did Shakespeare actually write all his plays), and there is a record of him acting in front of Queen Elizabeth in 1594 (Chandy). The main reason that these people believed to be the "real" Shakespeare, is Shakespeare lacks the background, education, and breeding in order to write such great plays and poems. William Shakespeare could possibly just be a political cover–up for a politician or a nobleman. "A nobleman could have written the plays but the plays were meant to be read as political commentary, with each character corresponding on a one–to–one basis with real political figures" Get more content on HelpWriting.net

With technologies, plagiarism becomes a fairly common practice in recent years. Plagiarism is actually recognized as a dishonest act from the 18th century when the original literature takes on more value within society. Readers want to read new creations of ideas and words from writers instead of seeing them polish the writings that have already been emitted. Writers are able at this moment to earn money with their works and they are entitled to ask for a fine to the one who steals their writings ("Plagiarism: is plagiarism a serious offense"). A third way of practicing plagiarism is, to paraphrase. You probably wonder how this can be considered as a plagiarism if the words of the author have not been used. It is true that the writing has been modified by the use of different words, but the idea does not come from own self. If the source is not mentioned in this case this method is part of the plagiarism ("Plagiarism and integrity in research"). In student life, other types of plagiarism involve using the help of a third person for the writing of an assignment that should be personal by using paid sites or working in a team or even distorting or by inventing the reference list. Various reasons for plagiarism exist, whereby involuntary plagiarism may be attributed to the incomprehension of the rules of citations or to ignorance of what is plagiarism and the consequences thereof. In literature, studies have shown that the factors favoring plagiarism are poor in ethics and especially didactics and knowledge attribute for scientific writing. • 12. Why Plagiarism Is Wrong At the Academy of our Lady, plagiarism is considered a disrespectful act of stealing someone else's work for your own benefit. Students often plagiarize by copying someone's homework, looking off another's test, or making someone do all the work in a group assignment. Sister Michelle states, "A student went into a teacher's room and took a picture of the test. The student compounded the bad choices by putting the picture of the test in a group text" (Davis). Xavier's academic honesty policy states, "The direct and unattributed use of another's efforts is prohibited as is the use of any work untruthfully submitted as one's own" (Xavier's Policy). Loyola goes through a process that includes inspection of work, receiving papers stating that you conducted plagiarism, and meeting with the instructor of the Honor code (Academic Honesty). Both colleges have similar consequences for plagiarism that are more extreme than a high school punishment.
