Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2. Smoke alarms save lives. You should have a working smoke alarm outside your bedroom door. Press the test button once a month to be sure the batteries are working.
3. Have an Escape Plan You should have at least two ways out of every room. Your family should have one meeting place.
4. Sleep with your bedroom door closed. A tightly closed door will keep most heat and smoke out.
5. Roll out of bed if there’s a fire. Do not stand up. It can be over 400 degrees above your bed and 1000 degrees at the ceiling.
6. Crawl to the door. There is less heat and smoke near the floor.
7. Feel the door to see if it is hot. Use the back of your hand. It is more sensitive to heat. Start at the bottom of the door and move up.
8. Make sure the door handle is not hot before opening the door.
9. If the door feels cool, open it just a crack. Look for smoke or fire. If there is only a little smoke near the ceiling, you can try escaping out the door.
10. If you see flames or a lot of smoke, don’t go out the door.
11. Close the door to keep the smoke and heat out. This will give you time to try another way out.
