The document discusses how politics can affect media through control and influence. It provides statistics showing large social media and mobile phone usage in Indonesia that politicians have used to spread messages and sway public opinion. During Indonesia's 2014 presidential election, different television stations showed unequal coverage, with one candidate receiving over 10 hours of airtime compared to 5 hours for another, reflecting the political affiliations of the station's owners. Politicians and media have a mutually dependent relationship that can mislead the public if not balanced properly.

Media can be something dangerous when it comes to discussing
some politics issues. As the media have become omnipresent in

Thankyou Moderator to give me the change to talk here. Okay, Ladies and Gentle men, lets talk about some fact about media and politics in Indonesia.
First, we must know how much people in Indonesia.
Its about 265,6 Million people live in Indonesia today. And for the total of internet users
Is 132,7 million people. It s only half of all indonesian people. And how much for the active social media users?
There is 130 million people are active socal media users. But the funny things, Indonesia has the mobile subscription around
415,5 million people?
Its twice much more than all of indonesian people, and four times greater than all active social media users. From the analysis it happened because average people in Indonesia have 2 or three number of their simcards, so in the database itโs looks like much more than indonesian people itself.
Okay, next we will see what is the favorite social media platform used my indonesian people
From this graphics we know that the red bar is Messenger, Chatapp or VOIP. And for the orange bar is Social network sites.
The first place is occupied by Youtube with the user percentages is 43%, the second place is Facebook is 41%, Whatsapp 40%, and then Instagram 38%, and so on until the last favorite media social is we chat are just 14%.
From the politics side, we will reflect from The President Election in 2014
There are two candidates of president election in 2014. First number is prabowo subianto and hatta rajasa, and the second number is Joko widodo and jusuf kalla. Both of them have some social media, so we collect the data about how much followers that they have.
First, let we see how much followers of their facebook
Wow, itโs 9,6 milion followers for prabowo, and 8,85 million followers for Joko widodo,
Its around 1 million less people than prabowo.
Next lets, take a look how much followers that they have in twitter.
For prabowo, he has 3,35 million followers from twitter, and far away from prabowo, jokowi has 10,5 followers on twitter.
For the last, lets take a look how much their followers from instagram?
You can see, there jokowi has 13,3 million followers. Diverge with prabowo that he only has 2 million followers
So. From this graph we know that Social Media users are also looking their support to whom. Beside that, social media is a good place to distribute the information about political activities.
Okay, for the next fact lets talk about
The media television and politics in Indonesia that it is the one things that cruisal until now.
Okay from the previous presenter we know a bit things about this two sample of media television.
Here, i want to give some interesting fact from both tv station.
In the president election 2014, they shows lots of the candidates of the election. But they serve with unbalance proportion.
Here we will see how they show the candidates of president election in 2014.
You can see, that the dark orange is means TV One showing Prabowo, and for light orange is TV One showing Jokowi
The dark blue is MetroTV showing Prabowo, and for light blue is MetroTV showing Jokowi
First The News Frequency of Prabowo in TV One is 66% and for Jokowi is 34%, but in MetroTV you can see dat metrotv show the news about prabowo its aroun 30% and for jokowi is 70%
And for the most talked about is prabowo subianto in TVOne with 84%. And in metroTV they 85% talk about Joko widodo
The positive news that serve to the audiens in tvOne is prabowo subianto with 96% and only 4 %, tvOne serving the good news of jokowi.
Same but opposite, metrotv show 94% positive news about jokowi and 4% for prabowo.
For the negative news, we also will guess that TV One is 100% showing Joko widodo negative news. And 0% of prabowo negative news.
In metroTV, its showing 100% of all the negative news from prabowo.
Beside of the news program, the television channel also show the political ads. In fact there 71% show campaign of prabowo and the rest is jokowi by 29%.
But in metroTV, all Political ads are showing just jokowidodo.
For the Non-news program such as debate and talk show program there are 54% prabowo and 46% jokowi in tv one.
Different with metroTV channel, they serve the non-news program with talked by 94% about jokowi and just 4% talked about prabowo.
And if we count, there will be 36,6 thousand second that tv one show the first candidate. For MetroTV is a litle bit longer than tv one, around 37,6 thousand second, they show the second candidate
It means tv one serve the program about prabowo 10,1 hours in a day. And 10,4 hours in a day too that metrotv show about jokowi. It happen when the president election in 2014 will held.
So, the question is, how can this happen?.
From the previous presenter, we know that the owner of tv one is Aburizal Bakrie with his company, PT. Bakrie Global Ventura. And the owner of metrotv is Surya Paloh.
Both of them have the politics affilation. For aburizal bakery, he is from Golkar party. We know that in president election 2014, golkar is coalition with 5 others party (it is P3, Gerindra, PAN, PKS, PBB) to support Prabowo-Hatta. For Surya paloh, he is from Nasdem Party that this party is coalition with 3 others party (it is PDIP, PKB and HANURA) that supporting the pair of Jokowi-JK
You can see that TV One has 3,8% viewers of all indonesians people, its around 10,09 million people. For metroTV, it has 2% peoples, itโs around 5,31 million peoples.
And the other fact is tv one has 33 station of transmission network and metro tv has 53 station of transmission network.
From this fact we know that the politic that brought by people behind the media it self will affect the content that will displayed in their TV Channel.
Especially in the election periode, they will race to sounding their candidates althought they serve with unbalance content betwen the candidates.
From this fact, we can learn that we must looking the backround of the TV channel that we see, so we can think better when make decicion in the next president election.
