HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT
REPRESENT PARTICULAR SOCIAL
GROUPS?
DOES MY MEDIA PRODUCT REPRESENT ANY
SOCIAL GROUPS
 Due to my opening title sequence being abstract, it
doesn’t give away much about the characters
involved in the actual film, despite a lot of pictures
shown. However, some are supposed to
represented as in the film such as Jennifer Love
Hewitt. As a result, social groups are not explicitly
represented or shown but are implied in the title
sequence, however not everyone would spot it.
MIDDLE CLASS
 The Middle class are not actually visually
represented as such, but the main character is of
middle class. The main character is in the film is ex
cop of who was high ranking, which is an B class
job. When you are in a B class you got to be highly
skilled, which he is represented as, as being skilled
and decisive, hence the name of the film being
decisive. The woman and the little girl (mother and
daughter), are wife and daughter of the main
character. This therefore means that they are also
of middle class but this is not explicitly shown.
HOWEVER...
 To most of audience they will see a lone parent
(mother) and daughter being represented.
Furthermore, lone parent families are usually
associated to being of a lower class. In addition this
is further emphasised by ethnicity being
represented. The mother and daughter are both of
black ethnicity. Black lone parent families are
usually stereotyped and associated as low class or
poor. On the other hand this is not how we are
trying to represent these characters.
WORKING CLASS
 There are certain characters which are represented
as working class which are both the suspects and
criminals. Again ethnicity is important to
representing. The characters of white or other
ethnicity but not black are represented as working
class. However, the mug shots of men who are in
suits and are of black African or Caribbean, are
meant to be represented as working class or even
upper class or people of importance, to the
audience, due to what they are wearing. This
challenges the stereotype and the connotation
related to ethnicity of other characters in this
opening title sequence.
CRIMINALS AND GANG CULTURE
 The criminals shown such as the mug shot of Curtis
Jackson connote there are going to be criminals in the
film. His appearance and possibly his ethnicity could
connote to the audience that he is from a lower class,
which indeed that’s how we are trying to represent him
as. He is supposed to be represented as a low class
criminal, from a poor area and lives in poverty; crime is
all he knows. He is supposed to also represent the sub
culture and social group; gangs. Furthermore, this
connotes what sort of characters will be involved in the
film itself. Especially as there a few criminals shown in
the sequence. There is a heavy stereotype of the
criminals being from lower class and that's what we are
trying to represent.
LAW ENFORCERS AND PEOPLE WITH HIGH
AUTHORITY
 The law enforcers and people with high authority
such as prosecutors are not visually shown in the
sequence. However, it is connoted by the fact there
are mug shots of criminals which suggest that
people are being prosecuted. These are the people
which have a lot of power and play an important
part in the film.
