How Blogging
Kickstarted My
Career
Brian Krogsgard - WordCamp Cape Town 2013
What is a blog, anyway?
To blog is simply to put
some form of content online.
I started with ideas.
I made a discovery.
I started learning (from
blogs).
I wanted to pay it forward.
I embedded myself in a
community.
I knew this was the career I
wanted.
I got a job doing what I loved.
But it doesn't end there.
So I started Post Status.
It's not just about learning now.
My goal is authority.
Lessons Learned
(many of these I’m still learning)
(many of these I’m still learning)
Authority doesn't come overnight.
Fight imposter syndrome.
Writing is like exercise.
It's not about how much traffic.
It's about what traffic you get.
Identify your advocates.
Accuracy trumps almost
everything.
Search engines matter.
Evergreen vs Timely content
Guessing which content will
succeed is nearly impossible.
You have to ask to receive.
Create calls to action.
Perception is key.
Don't be afraid to be a blog.
Monitor your growth.
Your benefits may be indirect.
Never forget where you started.
Give thanks to those who help you.
Greater authority opens
greater opportunities.
greater opportunities.
Thank you for listening!
