In the movie "Hotel Rwanda", The Rwandan genocide is described through the experiences of George Rutaganda, Colonel Oliver, and Paul
Rusesabagina. Their experiences explain the horrors of the genocide which began on April, 1994. Before the genocide, the Belgians controlled
Rwanda and they felt that the Tutsis were superior towards the Hutus, so they treated the Tutsis much better by giving them better jobs and treated
them with more respect. When the Belgians left Rwanda in 1962, Rwanda and Burundi became two separate countries, and the Tutsis were forced
to flee. This continued for several years until the Hutu president decided to sign a peace treaty, but when his plane was shot down and he was

Paul was a Hutu manager for a luxury hotel in Rwanda, and he sheltered over 1,200 Tutsis in his hotel during the genocide. This included his
own wife, and their children. Like previously stated Paul was married to a Tutsi woman named Tatiana Rusesabagina and they had four children
who were also Tutsis. Tatiana and her children were specific targets in the brutal attacks because they were related to Paul, who was hiding
and protecting over 1,200 Tutsis. Paul showed his sympathy towards the Tutsis multiple times during the film; the first example is when one
of the Hutu soldiers was about to kill all of the Tutsis that Paul and his wife were hiding in their home, when Paul bribed the Hutu soldier to
let them go free, when Paul could have left and reduce the risk of getting killed himself. The last example is when Paul's family and some of
their friends were leaving for safety, Paul could have easily gone with them, but instead he chose to stay behind and take care of all the
remaining Tutsis in his hotel that could not be rescued. These two examples show that Paul had a few cases where he could have left for him and
his families own safety, but instead he chose to stick behind and protect the helpless Tutsis. These decisions prove that Paul is a caring Hutu man
that would guide and protect the helpless Tutsis, which was very rare during that
