The Netherlands are
commonly known as
Holland and the official
language is Dutch.
Amsterdam is the
country’s capital. The
Netherlands is the
world’s second-largest
exporter of food and
agricultural products.
Dutch cuisine is formed from the cooking
traditions and practices of the Netherlands.
Traditionally, Dutch cuisine is simple with many
vegetables and little meat: breakfast and lunch
are typically bread with toppings like cheese,
while dinner is meat and potatoes.
Dutch pancakes are not like American
pancakes. They’re kind of a cross between an
American pancake and a French crêpe. In the
Netherlands pancakes are often eaten for
dinner. But they’re also easily eaten for
breakfast and lunch as well. They’re super easy
to make, you typically eat them rolled up. Dutch
pancakes can be made sweet or savory.
Children in the Netherlands get 8 years of primary
education, 4, 5 or 6 years of secondary education.
After secondary school they can go on to
vocational education or higher education. Free
primary and secondary state education in the
Netherlands is available to everyone. Parents are
only asked to pay a voluntarily contribution to
certain special activities and events.
The Netherlands has had
many well-known
painters. In the 17th
century painters such as
Jacob van Ruisdael and
Jan Steen were well-
known and in the 19th
century well-known
Vincent van Gogh.
Additionally, the
Netherlands is the country
of Philosophers such as
Erasmus.
Anne Frank’s diary was published after she
died in the Holocaust and translated from
Dutch to all major languages. Anne
Frank kept the diary while she was in hiding
for two years with her family during the Nazi
German occupation of the Netherlands.
Dam Square – Royal Palace
The heart of Amsterdam
The Rijksmuseum has
opened its gates at Hgue
in 1800.Eight years later, in
1808,it moved to
Amsterdam. Since then it
has been the largest
museum in the country.
The museum has over
8.000 exhibits and also has
a small collection of Asian
artifacts. If art is your cup
of tea, this definitely a
place to visit.
