1. From Monet to Bacon. Palazzo Ducale Genoa
In Genoa at Palazzo Ducale until March 03, 2019.
Sixty works from the Johannesburg Art Gallery that cover over a
century of international art, through the major performers, from
Claude Monet to Edgar Degas, from Dante Gabriel Rossetti to John
Everet Millais, from Pablo Picasso to Francis Bacon, from Roy
Lichtenstein to Andy Warhol.
An opportunity to discover a collection of works hardly visible in
other locations.
The exhibition allows visitors to take a journey through the history of
art from the mid-nineteenth century to the late twentieth century,
ranging from Europe to the United States to South Africa.
The exhibition "Da Monet a Bacon" will remain open until March 3
and is dedicated to the appeal of Nelson Mandela (1918-2013), 100
years after his birth. The exhibited works come from the most
important museum in South Africa and houses a precious art
collection.
The story starts from the nineteenth century English.
The exhibition continues with a large section dedicated to painting
of the late nineteenth century. The impressionist generation is
2. represented by Edgar Degas (Two Dancers), Claude Monet
(Primavera) and Alfred Sisley.
The journey continues with some protagonists of the post-
impressionist scene: Paul Cézanne (The Bathers), Vincent Van Gogh
(Portrait of an Elderly Man), Pierre Bonnard, Edouard Vuillard.
Crossing the threshold of the twentieth century, meet the works of:
Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso. There is no lack of exponents of the
second half of the century: the British Francis Bacon and Henry
Moore, and the two protagonists of American pop art Robert
Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol.
Ideally closes the exhibition, the section on art developed in South
Africa in the twentieth century, with painters with strong social
interests that tell the traditions of the country, but also the reality of
Apartheid.

4. The exhibition allows the public to discover the history of the
Johannesburg Art Gallery. Lady Florence Phillips, wife of mining
industry magnate Sir Lionel Phillips, was the protagonist of the birth
and formation of the museum collection.
A woman of great charm - as evidenced by the exposed portrait,
convinced that her city should have an art museum.
Lady Phillips sells a blue diamond given to her by her husband to
buy the first jobs. A nucleus enriched then over the years thanks to
new acquisitions and donations.
A series of educational activities are planned for the entire duration
of the event.A "family friendly" exhibition, with a corner for
lactation, a teaching room with free access, a path created
specifically for children, a free educational kit to be collected at the
ticket office for visiting the children.
Furthermore, inside the Palazzo Ducale, a "child height" work will
await young visitors for an experience dedicated to them.
