This document examines whether being on a more experienced MLB team influences the performance of rookie players. The authors used statistics from 2013-2014 to analyze how rookie batting averages changed from year to year and whether this could be predicted by team experience factors. They found their initial models did not strongly predict performance changes and that a larger dataset is needed.

This paper examines the relationship between MLB players' salaries and various performance statistics from the 2013 season. The authors regress salary data against age, games played, home runs, slugging percentage, hits, at bats, and on-base percentage for 447 players after removing pitchers. Their model explains 51.39% of salary variation, suggesting these statistics significantly influence pay. Home runs, hits, at bats, and on-base percentage positively impact salary, while slugging percentage has a negative effect. The paper concludes player salaries can be reasonably predicted using performance data.

Purpose statement and model
This study will try to examine whether there is a relationship between the payment and performance of a team. Performance is the dependent variable measured by wins of a team in the 2010 Major League Baseball (Tao Y. et al, 2016). This is the suitable dependent variable since the wins for a team can be influenced by many factors and the final results are the main target of every team (Scully G., 1974). The primary independent variable is payroll which the totals pay of the team (Wiseman F. & Chatterjee S., 2003). This is suitable in determining whether there is relationship between pay and performance due to the fact that a higher anticipates higher performance since many challenges for the team can be solved by financial stability (Sommers P. & Quinton N., 1982).
The general form of the model will be;
Wins = b0 + b1Payroll + b2Attendance + Error (

Using Last Years Stats To Plan For This SeasonJames Puliatte
1) Coaches use stats from the previous season to identify areas for improvement and set goals for the upcoming season. They look at stats like field goal percentage, rebounds, turnovers, free throws, and pace.
2) Coaches break down stats into team stats and individual player stats. They identify weaknesses and players that need improvement in certain areas.
3) Coaches use the analysis of stats to design practice drills and plays to focus on improving weaknesses and achieving their goals for the new season. They aim to incorporate the statistical analysis into changing player and team mentality.
This document summarizes the author's proposal for a new advanced lacrosse statistic called LAX IMPACT! to better evaluate player performance in Major League Lacrosse. It finds current lacrosse stats are limited and don't account for context. LAX IMPACT! calculates a player's points per team possession by considering shots, ground balls, and faceoff wins. An analysis of 2015 MLL data ranks players and finds top teams don't always have highest LAX IMPACT! due to style of play differences. The author believes advanced stats can help teams evaluate players and improve as salaries rise.
Part one of an analytical study and future report analyzing how historical data can be used better project player performance based on age, position, draft placement and career length.
This paper explores potential salary discrimination against foreign-born players in the NBA. The author will analyze salary data from the 2014-2015 season using linear regression models. The models will examine if nationality influences salary, while controlling for productivity, experience, height, and continent of origin. Past studies on discrimination in the NBA and other professional sports leagues have found mixed results. Understanding discrimination in the NBA labor market could provide insights into biases in U.S. labor markets more broadly.
The document discusses a case study of improving a hockey team's performance. The team was facing challenges after losing 6 consecutive matches. Some challenges included resistance to change, lack of accountability, and injuries. The team implemented a plan to identify weaknesses, develop a strategic plan, enhance player performance, improve team dynamics, optimize coaching strategies, and strengthen physical conditioning. The plan included player recruitment, coaching strategies, training and development, and improved team communication. The results of the plan included better team performance and chemistry as well as increased fan engagement and sponsorship opportunities.
This document summarizes a study examining whether NBA players strategically increase their effort in contract years. The study analyzes performance data for 31 NBA players in contract years during the 2012-13 season, as well as 13 additional players from previous seasons. A regression model is used to analyze how performance is affected by experience, team effects, player effects, and whether it is a contract year while controlling for other factors. Preliminary results found performance was higher in contract years even after controlling for other variables, providing evidence players increase effort in contract years. However, the study notes there may be limitations and caveats to the findings.
Multi Criteria Selection of All-Star Pitching StaffAustin Lambert
This paper presents an optimization approach to selecting the best 12-man pitching staff for a fantasy baseball team using linear/integer programming. The criteria considered were 2008 MLB pitching statistics including ERA, OPP OBP, WHIP, FLD PTC, and K/BB ratio. These criteria were weighted differently for starters, relievers, and closers based on their importance. The problem was formulated as a linear program to find the optimal roster within the constraints. The results provide the selected pitching staff and analysis of how sensitive it is to different weighting scenarios.
This document analyzes designated hitters in Major League Baseball using sabermetric statistics like runs created per game (RC/G). It finds RC/G has a positive correlation with team winning percentage. It then compares players' salaries to their RC/G, finding some players are overvalued while others are undervalued. The document also analyzes the effect of stadium size on RC/G and how it could impact salary evaluations. It categorizes stadiums as big or small based on outfield dimensions then further examines players' stats and salaries based on the stadium sizes. The goal is to evaluate designated hitters more accurately based on their contributions to winning using advanced statistical analysis.

Clustered players within their zone of expertise(Batting, Pitcher) into different segments based on the player's aggregate performance, age, and salary. The players within the same cluster as the injured player are most similar to the injured player
Identified the top three "target" players using similarity matrices and discriminant analysis for every set of requirements( constraints) of the team management. Example: The application will return the top three players within the age of 25 to 30 with an ERA of 3 and an annual salary of $700K
This study examines the methods and frequency of communication between collegiate basketball players and coaches over time. A survey of 50 current or former players from a small northwest college asks about their experiences using multiple choice and Likert scale questions. The analysis aims to determine if communication methods and frequency have changed significantly depending on the year of athletic participation. Digital technologies have increasingly become a method of communication, resulting in other methods decreasing over time.
The document analyzes the relationship between home runs hit and player salary before, during, and after Major League Baseball's steroid era from the late 1980s to late 2000s. It uses regression analysis to examine how home runs impacted salary in 1990 (pre-steroid era), 2000 (steroid era peak), and 2010 (post-steroid era). It hypothesizes that home runs had the greatest positive effect on salary during the steroid era when offensive stats were inflated. Key independent variables are home runs, team performance and attendance, and individual batting stats. Dependent variable is player salary adjusted for inflation.

- The empirical model finds no statistically significant relationship between payroll and wins. However, it does find that earned run average and runs scored have strong relationships with wins, while stolen bases has a weak negative relationship.
- Playing in the American League is associated with more wins, likely due to the designated hitter position. Overall, the results do not support the hypothesis that increased payroll leads to more wins in MLB.
8. We used two econometric models in our study to determine the effect of experience on
individual player development. The first was a simple multivariate regression of our explanatory
variables against the first dependent variable, Percentage Change in BA.
0 1AvgBAge 2TmBA 3TmAvgR/G 4TmTR 5TmRank 6TmW% 7PSeasonY = β + β + β + β + β + β + β + β + Σ
The second was a logistic regression in which we regressed our explanatory variables
against our dummy variable, Positive Change. With this we attempted to associated the
percentage of influence each variable may have associated with the possible change in batting
average.

After running a multivariate regression using OLS estimators on the percentage change in
batting average for individual players on our explanatory values we received an output that had
an R of only .0984. We found all explanatory variables to be significant within the regression 2
except for the player’s team’s rank and win percentage. Variables that were significant no higher
than the .10 level were team runs per game, team batting average, postseason performance and
total team runs. The rest of the variables were significant at the .05 level or better (Figure 4).
Team batting age was the most significant variable and holds a negative coefficient.
