Lecture-15; The Reformation in England
Henry VIII wanted to divorce his first wife Catherine of Aragon due to her inability to produce a male heir, but the Catholic Church denied his request for annulment. This caused Henry to break with Rome and declare himself the head of the Church of England through the Acts of Supremacy and Succession. He married Anne Boleyn and had her executed for treason after she failed to provide a son. Under Henry and his successors England established a Protestant national church, though Elizabeth I's settlement combined Protestant and Catholic elements, making the monarch the supreme governor.
Summary How Did Mary Try To Introduce Catholicism Aims And Persecution
Mary I had several main aims as queen:
1) Restore Catholicism in England after it had been replaced by Protestantism under Edward VI.
2) Deal with obstacles to Catholic restoration such as Protestant opposition, landowners who benefited from dissolved monasteries, and her lack of an heir.
3) She took steps like persecuting Protestant opponents, restoring papal authority, and enforcing Catholic doctrine, though this approach faced criticism for being too harsh.
4) By 1558, England had become largely Catholic again through Mary's efforts, though resistance remained and her death soon allowed Protestantism to resurge under Elizabeth I.

The introduction of DLAU and the CCB & CCX licensing model caused quite a stir in the HCL community. As a Notes and Domino customer, you may have faced challenges with unexpected user counts and license costs. You probably have questions on how this new licensing approach works and how to benefit from it. Most importantly, you likely have budget constraints and want to save money where possible. Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software Fuzzing
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

History rollercoaster
- 2. Religious Rollercoaster Henry VIII was all around the rollercoaster. He started out catholic then he realised that his wife ‘Catherine or Aragon’ was to old to have anymore children so he wanted a divorce. He told the priest but the Catholic religion doesn’t allow divorces so he decided to break with Rome and start his own church – The Church of England! Straight away he divorced Catherine which made him Protestant. Edward was Henry’s first son and he was all Protestant and no Catholic. He changed the Church by the age of 9. He changed the Church Services from Latin to English and allowed Priests to marry! He also scrapped all the beautiful decorations and replaced them with boring and dull decorations. The Church now looked plain and boring.
- 3. Religious Rollercoaster There then comes ‘Bloody’ Mary who took Catholic to a whole new level by burning all the protestants that didn’t become Catholic to the stake. She burned over 300 people in 5 years. She also forced the Priests to separate from their wives. She re-built the church and replaced the English services to Latin. 5 years after Mary was called to the throne there comes along a lady called Elizabeth who considered Catholic and Protestant views. She made it fair for both religions. For protestants she booted out the Latin services and replaced then once again with English, she also let the Priests marry again. For Catholics she changes the role of ‘Head of Church’ to a ‘Monarch Governor’ and she also got a new prayer book!
