A Term Paper about the phenomenon of artist-award schemes in Hong Kong art scene
* Feedback from Dr. Nick CHU Tai-sing after correcting my assignment:
A good reputation is not necessarily an original sin, right? One of the ways to launch successfully ones artistic career, as spelled out by Sarah Thornton, is to get an important award. All the policy related to art development in Hong Kong is elitist, in the sense that, like in sport development, there is no grass root planning. In Bourdieu's sense, there has been and is no desire to accumulate cultural capital for the society as a whole in Hong Kong. As such it will remain elitist, only a very few can make it big--in terms of reputation and money spinning. In general, reputation of an artist requires years to establish, as there are a lot of mechanism, institutional assessment, as well as trial by time. Yet the market in Hong Kong and China is such that this trial by time like long term investment is taken over by short term speculation and even money laundry.
This presentation is about the most fantastic art pieces and their creators journey which is on the platform of Traffic NYC and continuously trending among the modern artists.

Artist Biography
Hiroshi Sato was born September 1987 in Japan. From the age of three to
fourteen he spent his childhood in Tanzania. While there, he recognized
where he lived was not home, and where he called home was some place
he hardly ever knew. From a very young age, he understood he was not a
participant of his surroundings. Therefore, his role was of an observer. This
recognition and his exposure to alternate cultures, class, wealth, language
is his backdrop to his interest in perception and how it is explored in the
singular image.
He enrolled in the fine-arts program at the Academy of Art University, San
Francisco, graduating with a Bachelors and Masters in Fine Art.
Hiroshi Sato is focused on contemporary realist oil painting. He is best
known for paintings of figures in an interior environment. He draws
influence from past and present artists including Vermeer, Degas, Andrew
Wyeth, Euan Uglow, Hopper and Chuck Close. Sato’s work shows his
interest in geometric design principles of the old masters and is currently
exploring the simultaneous illusion of form and flatness in space. His goal
is to portray, and better understand our various states of consciousness
within ourselves through the visual medium.
Hiroshi Sato’s work has been featured in various publications such as
Fine Art Connoisseur, Juxtapoz Magazine, Visual Art Source and Art
Business News Magazine.
